You should give Megasteam's "Eliminator" a try. It works great on bad smelling smoke units then use another scent If you want or keep using it for your fluid. At least 3 fills of eliminator to loose the old scent.

   I just got some the other day just waiting to do it. The train I am talking about smells more of a burning smell so hopefully it will fix it

   I just got some the other day just waiting to do it. The train I am talking about smells more of a burning smell so hopefully it will fix it

 

It's worth a shot but it sound like your wick may be a little chard. eliminator will be an improvement but I would check under the hood and see what shape the wick is in.
