Hi all,

First real post here. I've lurked for a while, and have learned a LOT. One question I have pertains to smoke fluid, and the mess it seems to be making on the boiler of my MTH Imperial K4. It doesn't seem to matter what type/brand of fluid I use, and I try not to put too much in (5-8 drops), but when I run it with smoke, I get splatter on the top of the boiler. The longer it runs, the more splatter I get. Micro fiber cloth takes it right off, but that stuff goes everywhere if left unattended Smile

Is this normal? Smoke volume is great; I run DCS and even on the low settings I get good output. I don't refill until volume really tapers off. I use JT's for the most part, but I've used ProtoSmoke as well. If its just something I have to accept, thats fine. I just don't see anyone else mentioning it.

Thanks!!!

All my steamers do it, and none are MTH. It's worse when running a long while at the higher speeds and when full or too full of fluid.

My diesels do it too but slightly less - probably because the stacks are more constricted.

To my knowledge this is a learn to live with it. I used to worry about it, but no longer. And I don't recall it ever causing harm to any paint jobs.

I just use any sort of cotton waste or soft rags for it. My favorite clean-up for this are the cotton material or puff-balls that come in medicine bottles. I don't like throwing away that which could have some use, and this is about the only use I ever found for those...
