Does anyone know the voltage & rpm rating of the smoke unit fan motors used in the Lionel Legacy or MTH PS2 units? Are these all a common spec, or do they differ from unit to unit?
They are all probably the same, though no specific spec is posted on the motors. They run on 5V. Folks have interchanged Lio/MTH fan motors no issues. The only difference on some Lio are diagonal vice horizontal mounting holes. Minor issue unless a very tight fit smoke unit. Typically an issue with Lionel not MTH smoke units. G
I've mounted MTH motors in a number of locomotives, but a couple with the diagonal mounts have thwarted my attempt to use the MTH motor. The MTH motor is also about 1/8" longer than the Lionel motor, that could enter into the picture as well.
I asked because I see on ebay there are dozens of sellers peddling 5-6v micro motors with 1&2mm shft sizes, various frame lengths, and rpm ratings from 6k into the 20k ranges.
