I have a Lionel F3 dummy with fan driven smoke unit. The fan works fine but the smoke unit will only create smoke if I press Aux-9 continuously. I have replaced the smoke unit circuit board and the R2CL board. I have done a reset on the engine and cleaned everything, checked for wiring issues and visually inspected the circuit boards. The only thing I haven't replaced yet is the mother board. Any thoughts on where the problem might be? Thanks

If this is a Legacy engine, you can set the output smoke to a higher level...

No, this is a TMCC loco, its the 6-14536 AA set. There is no adjustments for smoke output.
You are incorrect about the adjustment of the smoke volume, that unit uses a smoke regulator with three smoke level settings. Truthfully, I can't imagine why holding ALT1-9 does anything, it shouldn't affect the smoke regulator output.
If it doesn't have that smoke unit and the regulator, it's not a stock 6-14536 set.
Try this setting to adjust the smoke.
AUX1, AUX2, 9 H, then AUX2 again to save the setting. This sets the smoke volume to high.
The L,M,H, buttons are the momentum buttons at the bottom of the remote, they also select smoke volume.
If that doesn't help, you might consider rebuilding the smoke unit with a new wick and resistor.

Gunrunner, sorry for the delay in responding, just got home from being out of the country on vacation. I tried the adjustment setting you posted and it worked like a charm, thanks a bunch for your help with this. Sure would be nice if Lionel had this setting adjustment in the owners manual, makes me wonder how many other adjustments can be made that are not noted in the manual.
Glad it worked out. It's in a manual somewhere, though it seems hard to find it written down.
