Me and the family are going to Gatlinburg week after next. Have any of you ever ridden the Smokey mountain Scenic Railway? If so, how was it?
Thanks!

If you are referring to the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad in Bryson City, NC I have ridden it many times. There are different trips depending on what you would like. For a purely scenic ride the Nantahala Gorge trip is nice. If you or your wife likes craft shops the trip to Dillsboro is good. On the Dillsboro trip you will see where they filmed the train wreck in the movie The Fugitive. They still have the engines used for at the crash site. I am not sure if there steam engine is back in service yet so you will probable be pulled by a diesel locomotive. They also have a very large O scale layout and train collection in Bryson City.
I recommend it. They will have Polar Express trains next week according to the website. You will enjoy the large layout and the Lionel collection at the station.

Ok that sounds great I am going to book it today. Thanks!!!
I took the family there in the summer of 2014. very nice... with a lot of trackage riding along the edge of the river there. I would love to return nsomeday & see it in Autumn.
I've ridden the steam excursion to Fontana dam and back. Nice trip over all.
The wife and I have been there twice. 2013 we went on the Tuckasegee River Excursion to Dillsboro. Saw the train wreck from the movie and the wife shopped in Dillsboro. This year we went back and took the Carolina Shine Moonshine trip on the Nantahala Gorge trip. Enjoyed some great moonshine and a lot of great views. It's well worth going.
I booked our seats yesterday, we are looking forward to it.
I rode the trip to Nantahala in oct 2011,my only complaint was it was crowded with every coach seat sold then. But it was a good ride with running along side and across Fontana Lake to running in the river gorge.I have a few pics in my 2011 facebook album here: https://www.facebook.com/johnn...p;type=3&theater
