Smoking diesels

The proliferation of liquid type smoke units. By the way, only that 2056 took smoke pellets, the General took fluid, & the other two took neither.

Adding diesel smoke is a whole new build from the ground up so is not really cost effective. It could be added to dummy units much easier.

MTH started putting smoke in diesels around 1995.

I have the SP "Kodachrome" SD45 20-2105 and it is touted as a new innovation. I remember that I said "diesels don't smoke" when I first saw it demonstrated.

There is a CSX line near us that hauls coal to the local power plant. I don't think I've every seen smoke from those diesels, although it is flat terrain here.  Just tell visitors to your layout that your diesels are in excellent condition.

Thanks. Now you know how often I run them with smoke (never). .  You're right again. I just went through an old box of his supplies and found some liquid smoke that appears to be for the General.

I'll tell them that I only run clean "green" diesels.

I live on a farm and have several tractors with Diesel engines.  If I have smoke coming out of them I know something is wrong and engine repairs are needed.

The older Grand Trunk Western GP9Rs, GP38-2s, and the CN/BCOL C40-8Ms do produce some noticable exhaust.

All Diesel engines train, truck, bus, tractor, car, back in the 50's though 70's smoked,  They didn't have the technology back then.
