I tried when it first came out, I really did. Just couldn't stand the pain (and I love Tilda Swinton).
I am probably not watching.
Yesterday I set the DVR for this movie. May watch it late tonight.
It has been streaming on Netflix for a bit. I liked it but some others didn't. I thought it had an 1980's John Carpenter feel.
I finally watched it on Netflix. Very dark, portrayed the weak and sick side of humanity that can come out when stressed.
I liked the train inventor's concept of a perpetual train running around the world. What a surprise when it became a survival vehicle.
The end was creepy.
I think in the run of indy movies, it will season like somes of Vin Diesel's films, The Chronicles of Riddick with the Necromancers.
One of the most disgusting movies I have ever watched. Don't waste your time.
Great Movie.
Well, I watched it last night. I am into Sci-Fi movies and enjoy the post-apocalypse and natural disaster films. However, I agree highly with David and p51. I hated this movie from start to finish and can't fathom that anyone could like it. Watching "Snopiercer" was a huge waste of time...I hate myself for having wanted to see it in the first place.
While I will not call it great or even good.......I can always find something about a film I like.
I love the environments and concept designs.
it's rare when i cannot predict the outcome of a movie shortly after it starts, so the originality of Snowpiercer, especially as it tends to ignore aspects (like gravity) of the physical world, puts it in the epic class IMO, though i can possibly see how those who expected this film to be about trains may have been disappointed.
I watched this film last night and was not impressed in the least. Generally I really enjoy watching post apocalyptic movies but I didn't like this one. Neat concept but really poor execution in my opinion.
I have it on in the background while I'm working - which sounds like a good idea based on the majority of the posts in this thread.
Actually, I thought it was a great movie -- but very depressing and distressing. It is really about class warfare.
But I don't think it had much about trains in it.
The last scene with the polar bear was amazing, I thought.

It has that effect on certain people. Part of the charm of the movie.

Best judge for yourself. It's an allegory on several levels, requiring some thought, and a bit haunting. It's probably not a movie for people just looking for some entertainment without involvement. It was well received by many critics and got overall positive reviews from viewers. I found it an interesting look into the nature of mankind, and what we do to ourselves, and how we interact with our fellow man. In the end, what lies ahead for us as we go through life, trying to get to the front of life's train? Who, or what, is in the front, and is it really controlling what's happening? The train is all the people in the back know, their reality. They begin the search for something more to their lives. Illusions, disillusions, misconceptions, victories and disappointments, and the nature of reality.
Lots going on.
Throughout, the thought of what we are doing to our environment, and what it will do to us, lurks in the background.
Based on a French comic.
TOO silly for words!
I like sci-fi. Also the apocalyptic genre.
But the the concept of humanity's sole remants endlessly circling the globe, on a train, of all things, was just too much for me. I recall virtually nothing of the movie, a good sign I didn't think much of it. Thumbs down from me.
I found it painfully boring and I a big syfy fan … intriguing storyline but the script was awful and the acting was incredibly bad. I bought it on iTunes when it first came out because of the "great" reviews … too bad Apple doesn't accept returns.
If its train action you are looking for find and watch the Russian film "EDGE". Steam engines, or parts of, in over half the frames.
Seems like a contemporary allegory, the train crew feeds unwanted children into the locomotive for fuel.
