UPDATE 5-8-2020.....Something happened to the picture loading

iMAC 10.11.6 (Its 12 years old... can't go any higher) using Google Chrome.

Maybe try a different browser?

I just uploaded these two pictures using a MacBook Air that was upgraded recently to Catalina 10.15.4 and it worked using Safari.

Windows Surface Pro/ Firefox 74.0.1. Worked fine.

Could it be the .heic file type? Mine is .jpeg

My MacBook Air is the latest version (the one from last summer) that I purchased in August 2019 and my pictures are also in JPEG format. I did try the HEIC picture format one time from a iPad and that did not work.

iPhones and iPads now take pictures in the .heic format.  They should work on a Mac.

I did several months ago raise the issue in the SUPPORT forum section about the software system for the forum doesn't seem to support HEIC format for pictures and Rich Melvin got upset about it and didn't want to pursue it with the folks that provide the server/software. Basically he said use JPEG format.

It's the file format, change your camera to output standard graphic format and all will be well.  This is just Apple being Apple and putting out yet another proprietary file format!   One of the reasons I detest living in Apple's straitjacket.

Wonderful.    Yet ANOTHER proprietary image file format from Apple, that was not needed.

They may work OK on a MAC, but literally every web site that has used jpg format images for decades will now need new code added to accommodate the .heic image format. Apple is starting to behave like Microsoft, forcing users to do it THEIR way instead of the way you prefer.

Convert your images from .heic to .jpg and everything will work fine.

The new issue is if you go back an edit a mistake in the text with a PC, the existing photos that were posted turn into an  "X"

I do that all the time, and my photos never disappear, I think if that happens to you it's not the forum.  I run Firefox and Windows 10.

Final edit to add this comment.  In no case did any of my previous edited pictures disappear or get corrupted. I just added another picture to the posting.  Multiple edits, multiple pictures, no problem.

Same here.  After editing a post the full size pictures become an X. This just started for me too.  I use Win10 and Firefox.

I delete the box with the X in it, go down to the thumbnail pictures and repost them in full size.

I'm not an Apple-hater! Don't put words in my mouth, Dudley. Every OGR video I've ever produced was edited on a MAC Pro using Final Cut. I love that program and computer platform.

I will revisit this heic issue with Crowdstack support. Given how cheap disc space and bandwidth is these days, file size is just not that important any more. And don't forget, there is no such thing as a free lunch. If the file is more heavily compressed than a jpg, then there is some loss of quality in that process, too.

I just edited my previous post here three times, each time adding a graphic.  I had no issue at all of them disappearing or being corrupted.

Happens to others I see also.  Did you collapse the attachment box?

Reply - Here is the example as shown above.  Went back and found several posters with "X" photos. Been loading pics on here for years the same way without any issues. Don’t tell me nothing has changed. Go back and review the latest software releases for bugs.

Yes, I almost always collapse the attachment box when I post, that makes the post shorter on the page.  Since I've inserted the images, I see no reason to have the attachment box visible as well.

I just edited the post again and expanded the attachment box and saved it.  No change, pictures still there.

We do not support heic as an image format currently (nor do most major browsers) .  There are lots of free tools for converting image formats online. Here is one specifically for HEIC:

Permit me a suggestion and make of it what you will.  And I intend absolutely no offense.

A 20+ line, single paragraph post on OGR exceeds my albeit limited reading energy.  Those same 20+ lines rendered in several or so paragraphs is much more likely to gain my interest and effort.

So, for the sake of readers, myself included, who would like to know what you have to say, make it easier for us and use paragraphs, please.

An update:

HEIC format images are now officially supported in Crowdstack, so you can upload them directly from your tablet or phone. They will be converted into JPEG images for display here.
