Thanks Matt. You know, I looked at them. They are almost exactly the same size! Trouble is they don't couple? I would have to look into grinding them to match the contours of a KD. I set them aside a long time ago and never looked back into it.
Oh yeah, here's the rope Bill:
Joe good grief whst have you done to these poor folks Sure looks like you have them all tie up in knots(lashed up & n nots' over proper terms. Hmmm, I re-read thru all this and see I never answered some stuff. Joints are all saw cut and glued together. On the inside of the shell I added hot melt glue to act as shock re-enforcement to keep things tight.
I had looked at O scale 3 rail couplers and didn't like that they would need shaping to couple and release with G scale. They are the right size amazingly. Probably should have put them on all my stuff first.
On the inside is MTH PS2 electronics and their G gauge smoke unit. I should turn it down as it smokes like crazy! I added 2 different 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel. One's in the fuel tank like other G gauge, and one (Lionel Fatboy) is under the rear dynamic fan throwing upwards.
Sorry for the late replies.
Still waffling on the colors......Bill.
This is quite a project Joe, guess I missed it before.
You're doing a terrific job!
WOW! Joe your doing a great job on this project, Ive been watching quietly, I have a secret hankering for gauge one. Stephen (cTr...Choose the Right)
Still impressed with your joints/corners.

Thank you. Maybe if you saw them real close, you'd change your mind!
A few of them are very good. Some, needed extra glue to fill the gap. Some, I filed for a while to get flush. The main joints were cut on 45 degree angles and came out good. It got tuff, when the joints were inside corners and where several angles met. Those are just butt joints.
I should have made copies. Maybe I could make a mold someday?
What impressed me the most, and was missed by some haters, was that I built the shell from plans. It exactly fit the width of a MTH gauge one frame. The length had to be changed. That should have anyways because they are different in the prototypes.
I never checked until later when I was building my frame and set it off near a MTH one.

Well..., maybe a step forward??
I was walking thru a store and I found spray cans of Rustoleum for plastic? I never saw it before. It was marked down some so I took a few cans of off white and navy blue to the cash register. The girl said they rang up for 1 dollar! I grabbed a bunch. So now I have my original CSX dark future colors by Floquil, and now EMD demo's by rustoleum. I found a can of bright red that maybe close to CN??? Hmmm, I've got to pick the color someday....
How about just primer for another year?? Don't think I could pull off any pumpkin schemes myself..... Wait. How about Heritage's??? Urrggg. Maybe NS, or NYC black!!no wait.....I should have made copies.....
Joe, I've gotten very good results using Rustoeluem rattle cans to paint my styrene scratch builds. Its easy to use, if only they make the color you need.
Wow! That looks great. Did you fabricate the truck side frames yourself? Very detailed. Can't wait to see it in paint.

No, those are from the USA trains 1/29 scale SD70MAC. I tried to modify them for the correct size. Some of the parts should have been moved. Close enough for me!
It was aimed at that lashup joke. If I missed him, I'd better let it go or he may remove this whole thing??
Joe
That is real, demonstrable craftsmanship! I have just gotten back to my scratchbuilt O scale interurban freight motor ( three rail) and this thread is an inspiration to keep going..body is painted, moving on to the frame and trucks. No matter what gauge it is, I enjoy threads on scratch building. There is one over in Tinplate on a Standard Gauge Diesel, which is also awe inspiring.

I can't find it? What's the thread title?
