Hello Everyone, First of all, thanks for all the help over the years. This forum has helped me solve many problems with my trains and layout.

The new issue is sound of steam. I have a FARR 3 Northern, the sound of steam failed years ago. I replaced all the capacitors as forum members have suggested, and I now have the "static" sound of steam back, which is great! But, I also have a "hum" in between the "static chuff" sound. Honestly, this engine always had this hum noise, even when it was new. The issue is, this hum in between the chuffs is now much louder so I was hoping someone could help me eliminate or get the hum quieter, like when the engine was new.

Side note, I also have a Chicago and Alton Hudson with the same sound of steam in it. Luckily, still works and has never had this hum problem in between the chuff sounds.

All help is appreciated!

Vic

sounds like a board problem you're probably picking up ac noise on the dc on the board perhaps an ASC Tech could repair it for you, I use to have a similar engine! sometimes you still see used boards at the TCA train meets in York in April or October! please take a photo of the board you're talking about top n bottom of board!

Vic, someone (not me!) is selling the FARR #3 tender with Sound of Steam on the For Sale board of the OGR Forum.

Hopefully someone will tell you how to get rid of the hum.  But if you're inclined to gamble, I would grab it.  These trains are over 40 years old now.  Having a second one isn't a bad thing, it could be a handy source of spare parts.  My $.02.
