Thanks Alan. I have looked over the manuals of several PS1 engines. Non of them have a battery switch on the tender. I put a fresh mth battery in it. When i switch the battery switch on it plays the steam idle sounds even though the tender is not on the tracks. When i turn it off it plays the idleing and chuffing when the engine is moving but not between forward-neutral-reverse cycle. The battery is fully charged. When it is running the chuffs are not synced to the wheel rotation. Sending a picture of battery switch. Any ideas?

from what I understand ps1 engines are not synced like the ps2 and ps3 engines! 

This loco has an early protosound system,  the battery keeps the sounds alive during power interruptions

but it must manually be turned on and off with the switch, later systems had this function done automatically.

It is a great loco ,mine looks and runs great and will be converted to TMCC to update control system

Thanks Dave. When I turn the switch on the sounds come on. Even if there is no track power to the engine. So thats normal for this engine? It is a gorgeous loco! Thanks!

You are correct, the chuff is dependent on the motor voltage, it has nothing to do with the wheel rotation proper.

One more thing, the headlamp doesnt work. The front of the boiler opens up i assume to change the lamp out. When i pulled the two wires that go in to the headlamp housing the wires just pulled out. No bulb. If it is broken off inside the housing any idea how to get it out? Thanks!

The headlight stuffs right into the back of the housing.  If you take the headlight off and press a small screwdriver into the hole, you can push the headlight lens off, the bulb pieces will be easily removed.  This uses a 6V bulb, or you can upgrade to an LED with a 220 ohm series resistor for a brighter light.
