Hi Pete
lets see pictures and a video !!!
Alex
Even out of focus in that shot, it's a good looking loco!
Thanks Pete
Lionel did a great job, the sounds are outstanding.
Thanks ,Alex
No problem, Alex.....sorry about the out of focus shot but it was taken with an older iphone.....I am sure better pics will be forthcoming!

Except for that air horn, which doesn't sound like the real one.
While the real SP 4449 horn is not quillable, "not sounding like the real one" is debatable:

Nice video, but the real 4449 air horn is deeper sounding than what the video, posted above, reflected on the model.
Whistle Sounds okay, wish it sounded more like the real one...

Well, it is pretty close. Do you know what the real one REALLY sounds like?
I think there's a way to change the whistle on locomotives, here's an example of one:
and videos never really reflect what it actually sounds like standing in front of it. they have always sounded good on the older models, I'm sure this one sounds mighty fine
I think the whistle in the video I showed you would be much a closer whistle. It may not sound like 4449, but it is a Hancock 3-chime. Or the 1st generation GS-4 whistle would sound great.
Seems to be the same sound set that Lionel installed in the GS-2 a few years back. I had the GS-2 and I really liked the sound set, so I'm a happy camper

Gotta agree with HW on this one. Lionel gets an A++ for the steam whistle sounds, but that air horn is terrible. It's that same sick-cow sounding diesel horn I had hoped Lionel retired once and for all. Perhaps it's the attempt to quill it that drives me nuts, but the air horn on the TMCC w/Railsounds 5 Daylight had a much nicer air horn tone to it.
Although not a show-stopper, that air horn detracts from an otherwise beautiful model (aside from the outrageous $1700 MSRP).
David
I agree, David. I don't mind the new air horn (aside the rather uncanny quilling), but the old air horn sound on the last GS-4/TMCC GS-2's do sound better. It seems both the new GS-4's and FEF's have a bit of sound nitpicks. Let's hope the T-1's coming out in Winter will be more well received in that area.
The new Daylights are real nice, and the 4449 cab number should make them sell well, but I think I'll wait until the 2007 No.4436's come on the secondary market.

David, did you listen to horn is the video posted here. Sick cow is pretty good description of the real deal.
Pete
Its an absolutely beauty! Now I'm really regretting having sold my Legacy and TMCC versions.
Are the American Freedom Trains being sent out also? Would love to see a video of this.

Appears that stores are showing the AFT GS-4 in stock too.

To all Forumites: Mea Culpa. Pecavi.
I found that old record and dusted it off, and the steam whistle is indeed a "steamboat" style. I am usually better than that at recalling details. I didn't realize I still had it, or I'd have fact-checked myself before posting. I've removed the post.
Thanks for keeping me honest, Jack.

Me, too. If there was ever a 3-rail loco I'd buy (as I have nowhere to run one), it'd be that one. 4449 in AFT red/white/blue was the first "mainline" type steam locomotive I ever saw.
Picked up my Daylight and AFT today. AWESOME
Does anyone have pictures/videos of the AFT version? Mine arrived today, but it was damaged. The wrench was not secure in the box or wrapped in plastic. During shipping, it caused paint damage. However, Lionel is going to fix me up. I just have to wait... ):

On the right!
The new Legacy Daylight is on the left, under the Sunset version.
The one on the right is the old TMCC GS2
I was guessing with the product number and thought it was one that had SP Lines. The silver ladders should have given it away. They all look nice however!
Gonna have to "fix" those silver ladders
