National Train Day at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC found some visiting power from Norfolk Southern in the form of Southern Railway SD40 #3170. Late afternoon clouds and showers gave way to some glorious sunshine. A small photo freight was operated in the late evening, and then a lineup of four Southern diesels for the night photo session. The former Southern Railway maintenance facility serviced the diesel fleet for a while after steam operations were discontinued, so for a brief time, all was right in Spencer again.
