I was greeted to a wonderful surprise when I opened up run 258 and saw on page 13 Which just happen to be my birth date.
Model Building Services and Twin Whistle Sign & Kit Co are making the Southern Railway Charlotte Station in O scale.
I had acquired several photo's and the building plans to make this station on my own. It's nice to see that I'm not the only person who feel this station would also make a star attraction on there own layout.
So needless to say I will be ordering this fantastic station which will fit in perfectly with my Southern motive power.
The Station was built in 1903 and was designed by Architect Frank Milburn. in 1960 the station was razed when the Southern opened there new station on N.Tryon St. This was also due to the project to raise the Southern mainline through Charlotte.
The current site is home to Greyhound bus station but the State of NC is in the process to purchase to land to build the new Charlotte Gateway station at the same site the old Southern Railway station once stood. The new station will house Amtrak,Greyhound hotel and rental car agency. It will also be used for Red Line commuter rail to lake Norman and the Trolley line from Johnson C. Smith to Presbyterian hospital.
