While running my Lionel # 261 steam engine the other day, I noticed sparking between the tender coupler and passenger car attached to it. After eliminating each suspected passenger car one by one, I found the car creating the issue. Initial inspection revealed nothing out of the ordinary, but after snapping the roller assemblies out of their mounts I found the issue. In the attached photo that copper contact that looks bent really was rubbing on the spring for the coupler, causing the sparking. That contact is supposed to bent bent at a 90 degree angle. That allows it to avoid touching the spring , causing issues. After bening it properly, no more sparks!
