I wish someone could explain what happened from the time when railroads had 5 man crews, massive back shops to maintain steam, track section gangs spaced every 10 or 20 miles that maintained tracks to a condition to permit high speed passenger service, and apparently stayed in business making something of a profit, to this day where railroads in the holy grail of maximizing profits, want one man or even no man, operated trains 18,000 feet long and have to work at providing proper customer service.
