I came across a print by Alvin Staufer. It is of a 034 Niagara, noted copyright 1961 and signed along one of the rails.  This is old, it is on heavy paper, at least 1/16" thick if not heavier, and is about 3 feet by 1-1/2 feet in size, the paper is more tan/yellow than white.  My question is could this be an original print or is it a more modern copy?  I don't know much about prints and would appreciate any comments.

Thanks as always,

Bum,

Al Staufer authored quite a few Railroad books (a lot of titles ending with "POWER").

He passed on recently, but for many years was a fixture at the York TCS shows. He sold both books and prints there. I doubt what you have is an original, but you never know. I suspect his son is carrying on with sales, and as I recall he is located in the state of Ohio.

I have seen reproduced prints on eBay and other store sites but when zooming in on the photos of the prints they don't show his signature where as this one does have it.  I never seem to luck out finding things that have any value but just the general appearance of this makes me want to believe that it is as old as the copyright date.  There is not much about them on the net, I'll keep looking around, I have another one over at the shop and I'll dig it out to see what it looks like in comparison.  I still enjoy buying old trains but the things I find in the boxes along with the trains are sometimes more exciting especially if it is something that I have never had or seen in person before.  I have a lot of junk that has minimal value but they are to me very unique pieces of junk that I can't part with and I'm sure someday they will be thrown out by my kids or grandkids.
