I have a small park on my layout and I was thinking of having a steam locomotive on display.  This issue is I am modeling the late 40's early 50's and would steam locomotives been on display then?  I was thinking of buying a smaller american type locomotive to have on display, but even then was there any park locomotives at that timeframe?

I know it is my RR and I can do what I want but I want somewhat of a prototypical look.  If it was unheard of back then to have a locomotive on display at a park then I won't do it.

Thanks for the great idea!  I don't know why I hadn't thought of that since there are so many in the real world and I always enjoy seeing them.  We are including an ice skating area, circus, and play park for "our families and their kids" in our layout so a steam engine would be a great addition for the "kids" to "play" on.  Turns out we have an American Flyer that my wife got in the early 50's that we don't actually use.  It just sits on a table by itself.  That would be perfect since it will be on the far side (8' away) where scale won't be an issue.

We used to have an old caboose (and a jet) sitting in our City Park back in the 50s-60s.  I don't recall which RR donated the caboose (N&W, SAL, or ACL) and it seems like the jet was a F-84 or F-86.  We also had a Polaris missile drone sitting in a fountain at the end of High Street in the downtown area.

Presently we have a N&W steamer displayed:
