Through the years I’ve managed to roster a small fleet of MTH 2-rail diesels. Have always enjoyed the looks and running of these locomotives.

Do you all think parts will be available in the years ahead? Are there any parts I should pick up now like spare PS 3.0 boards and the like? Am just getting back into the hobby so please bear with me.

Thanks!

Chuck

If the exact parts are not available in the years ahead, there will be technologies that can be retrofitted for the electronics.  Some of the newer DCC decoders have better features than DSC anyway in terms of flexibility.  The parts I look at are mechanical parts that inevitably wear out.  In my case I have 7 or 8 FP45s when I only run 3 for my El-Cap set.  I rotate them and also have a parts source for when they just wear out.  I'll be honest, it was a bit overboard and I have plans to upgrade three of them, but that is one strategy.

With as much MTH that is out there, I would suspect donor units will be on the market for a long time.

MTH is undergoing a new transition, during which, as Mr. Mike Wolf said, the electronics department will be headed by the current MTH employees. So, there's a good chance parts will be available in the years ahead.
