What is the best way to store MTH Locomotives in their original factory boxes, wheels down or on their sides, or does it really matter?

Well, the best way is probably wheels down, especially if they still have smoke fluid in them. However, it's probably not going to matter a whole bunch.
I'm with GRJ (again), if there was smoke fluid added try to position the loaded box "wheels down". I marked the end of my boxes with an arrow pointing up to make sure the engine is vertical and upright. Of course, you have to make sure that you place the engine back in the box in the correct position relative to the arrow.
I also try to reposition the plastic sleeve over the engine with the "dirty" side against the wheels before its boxed.
I don't store any of my engines in boxes. I store them all up right on shelving.
At some point I have to imagine whatever smoke fluid was in the engine has evaporated, right??!!??
How long do they sit in boxes? Something to consider as well.

And DONT FORGET THE BATTERIES! If going to storage, remove the batteries on PS1 and PS2 engines. Best to replace battery with the BCR so you have No More worries.
