Good Morning! I recently worked on a small 40'' x 12'' diorama of the Carpenters Crossing at Strasburg. I developed a video to document my process. I'm pretty happy with the final product. Not including dry time for paint, glue, sculta-mold, or trees (which were already completed) this took me about 2 hours to build.

disclaimer (which I guess I need on any videos I post) - I'm not a professional film maker, I don't have expensive cameras and lighting. I film and post these videos to help other modelers that may be looking for a new technique for scenery.

Excellent work, and thanks for posting.  It's a great re-creation of a real location.  My only comment is regarding the front crossing gate - you mentioned that it was omitted so that it won't block the view of a train when taking photos.  While this true, in real life the signal would be visible in a photo at that location, and nobody thinks anything of it.  Since realism was your objective (and you've done great!), I think that adding the front crossing signal would be appropriate.
