I purchased 10 pcs of track 8 curves and two 10" straight sections.

I made a loop and my van hooks the track when entering the straight section.

I noticed the grooves and much wider in the curve sections then the straight. There is a sudden reduction and the van catches it ... it this normal ?

Here is a pic ...

You need to get the 2 1/2" curve to straight adapter track to make the transition from the narrow grooves in the straight road to the wider groove in the curved road.  This is the current WBB E-Z Streets road which will fit the older Kline/Lionel Superstreets road.  This is the Kline/Lionel version which you may be able to find via an internet search.  You may be able to do without them coming into a curve but using them going from a curve to a straight section will solve the problem you are having.

The most common mistake made in 'Streets is leaving out these pieces.  They can be a bit difficult to find right now.  Without them traffic will not run smoothly. If you have only a limited number, there are some places you can often get away with leaving them out (I don't recommend it but you can get away with it often).  You can look in my book 'Streets for . . . (buy it on Amazon or download from my website for free) for an explanation of all the what, where, when, why and how of them . . . but it is best to have them at each change for curve to straight or vice versa, to make things run well,.

In a pinch, if you have to, you can custom-make a transition with a Dremel.  These pieces are getting hard to find - I was talking with someone frustrated because they could not only a few days ago.

I have three places on my layout where I had to make my own because progress was a-waitin' and I was out of transition pieces.  A little work with a razor saw and Dremel - taking care and planning your work carefully, can make nice, neat transitions in straights leading into curves where you need to.
