Hello Structural Engineers!

My question is simple (although the answer may not be):

When 2 "I" beams meet each other at 90 degrees, how are they joined?

  1. They are simply welded together as a "T".IMG_3722
  2. The web? of one is cut and they are welded together as shown below:IMG_3721
  3. Joining plates are riveted to the two mated "I" beams on both sides of the joint.
  4. Some other approach?  (If so, please elaborate).

If you have seen this or have experience with this in the real world, please weigh in with your thoughts.

Many thanks,

George
