What is wrong with the middle driver?

The Max Gray K4 was a lot more accurate than the USH version, but the Max gearboxes are worthless.  If you find a driver, you need a #653-6 gearbox, a Pittman 8x24 motor, a length of K&S tubing, a hunk of Toyota #O hose, and somebody who can knurl your axle and re-quarter your driver.

Those parts convert a horrible runner into a smooth-as-silk model with an accurate boiler.

Ah - Opinion!

Looks like I need more help than I realized......suggestions as to who I should contact for such a project? I agree with the looks of the MG boiler....very well done. BTW Bob2....when I looked for your email address in your profile, I noticed that you are  Piper Cub fan. My Father-in-law and many of my wife's uncles worked at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven, PA. I got rides with test pilots who were friends of my grandmother. Lots of Piper history......

Sure.  Do you have the center driver?  If not, you may have to replace all of them.

Joe Foehrkolb does this stuff professionally, and is very reasonably priced.  I have a Scale Craft K4 with Loco Works coined drivers on it - they are lacy, like the real thing, and by golly some day they will get replaced with good old cast iron.

I can be contacted.  I keep my e-mail fairly hidden so I can discourage political jokes and all those widely forwarded things about squirrels and cats.  Folks automatically assume I am a wingnut, and send me hateful stuff about folks I voted for.

I visit several forums, both train and PiperCub, where PMs can be used to exchange e-mail addresses. I live in San Diego.
