OK, BATMAN V SUPERMAN movie is coming up on March 25. Now, Supes is more powerful than a speeding locomotive. Now, which one?

Both are owned by Warner Brothers. I could see Supes V Taz!
This!
Anyways, Mad Magazine resolved all such discussions some sixty years ago in "Superduperman versus Captain Marbles."
After Superduperman tricks Captain Marbles into punching himself in the face, "He was destroyed by the only force as strong as he . . . he." He he he.

I still read MAD magazine. I even have a subscription.

In Batman v. Superman it is always a battle of brains v. brawn and we all know which one has the brains. My bet is on the big black bat!
The 1950's Superman episode introductions suggest that Superman was more powerful than a GS-4 Southern Pacific 4-8-4. The intros for later episodes briefly showed a diesel locomotive, possibly an E7 or E8. Don't know if Superman would be a match for the newer MU consists and 10,000 ton unit trains.
This clever guy deduced the location where the Superman train intro bit was filmed. Note that the hill profiles are the same.

That is NOT a Southern Pacific GS-4, as it has only a single headlight. It is one of the earlier GS class 4-8-4s.

Right, and those were in color, when the series changed from B&W to all color.

Superman is not all powerful....sooner or later, he will run out of beans. Then we'll hook up another Diesel unit, and shove him back into Lionel's closet, just like Big Boy. "thank you, Mr. Dilworth" for setting us all straight.

Thank you for the clarification. GS-4 was a guess on my part; I'm not so familiar with all the visual details and the road number was not discernible. I think the GS-series locomotive performance characteristics were generally similar as far as Superman was concerned.
The "more powerful than a locomotive" claim, I would like to know: in regards to tractive effort, horsepower, or what ? I think the later movies went too far in claiming that Superman could do EVERYTHING.
Here is the Superman color intro with an E7 locomotive.

As a hedge against the eventual introduction of color TV broadcasting, the show switched to filming in color for the 1954 season onward, though it was initially broadcast monochromatically.

In my opinion, Superman COULD do EVERYTHING! Remember in one of the movies, with Christopher Reeve as Superman, he even caused the rotation of planet Earth to slow down, and back up in order for him to "go back in time" and save Lois' life.

My bet is on the woman with the shield, bracelets, and lasso: Wonder Woman!

So, I always had a problem with this one, but maybe someone could educate me. Isn't he holding the wrong side of the rail with the wrong hand? I assume the wheel flanges are on the inside of the rail. Wouldn't the flanges ride up on his back and derail the train, especially since the other rail is open?

No, because the photo is just a "snap shot" of the scene. He uses his right hand to bend up the opposite rail, and forces it into place. Then the Amtrak train runs over his back while the flanges are in contact with the "bent into place" opposite rail.

Thank you. I will sleep better now.
Fewf, I almost thought this stuff was fake...
They're both cartoon characters. Not much strength as I see it from either of them... Batman does have more and cooler toys.
I suppose their "strength" comes from the millions of dollars they are worth in tax revenues to the United States as well as their ability to inspire future generations! It is story telling in a traditional sense though certainly more detailed than the drawings on a cave wall or on papyrus.
The real question is when will someone make the figures in O-scale?
Actually, there ARE O scale figures out there. There is a Family General at Airline and Little York. They have an O scale size Supes or Bat with a HO sized cop car/Batmobile. (Go figure the 2 diffent scales.) but the Supes/Bat figures looks close enough to place on a layout. But then again, how can you really model a cartoon?
BTW, the motto on the Supes cop car is in Latin. Translates to "Truth and Justice". Wonder where they got that?
You can also get die cast 1/48 Batmobiles - they made models through the ages - I have one of the 1950s design with the giant bubble cockpit.

I have seen the "Adam West" 1960's BM, er, Batmobile.
This is a really important thread.
I'm glad the question has been asked.
When you guys work out the answer, please let us know without delay.
In the meantime, however, I think it's important to keep your options open.
Cover all the bases.

I had a good chuckle out of your multiple photos. But we might be excommunicated for our failure to respect the serious business of serious model railroading as pursued by serious modelers. Seriously!

sorry, that picture is off-topic.
Your cape is in the pick-a-nick basket, ehh Booboo?
Andy, I'm looking for Sherman and Mr. Peabody in Standard Gauge, haven't found them.

What is the "official railroad" of Jellystone Park".?
I could see the Dr. Who call box landing at Downton Abbey. I would love to see the look on Violet's face!
Or what is more powerful: A locomotive or a very angry Lois Lane?
Angry Lois Lane means angry Superman
We'll just have to see how Superman stacks up to 18,000 tons of import iron ore - heading west out of Altoona on the 2% grade ! Now he might have more stuff than the Espee GS ? in the TV intro.....But three EMD E-Units ! Naaaaaaaaa ! Faster than a speeding bullet? Maybe, but not with a 15 car Sunset Limited tied on his tail. Way I see it, Superman is sadly lacking in tractive effort, Factor of Adhesion, grate area, and free gas area. On his best day, he might go toe to toe with Old Maude, on the Best & Only. His best future in railroading, IMHO....try out for a yard job, or mebby transfer work !

Supers might have more of a chore going DOWNHILL on that ore train. Seems Supes is seen STOPPING a train, not PULLING one. Then again if the train has Lex Mines kryptonite ore, all bets are off in either direction!
