What I always thought was nifty about SSEZ streets was the removeable manhole covers to hide the screws; however, even the smallest screws that I could find (2 x 1/2), short of using jewelers screws which would be ridiculous, cause the covers to ride high and they get bumped around by the vehicles. People have told me I have a few screws loose...but that's another matter...have I not found the right screws for Super/EZ streets, or what are you doing to fasten them down?

I used the number 4s same as my Fastrack.
I tried #4s, no-go, can't close the manhole covers!
I use # 4 phillips head screws about three quarters of an inch long, with what is called a tapered or countersunk head. It allows the screw to widen out at the top and be flat across the top of the head. With these screws I can still install the little manhole covers and they will be flat with the track. Do not use a rounded on the top of the head screw! It won't allow the covers to close.
A trick that I learned to remove the manhole covers is to use a paper clip, you straiten it out and pop the covers out from the bottom or can insert it from the top at the side where there is a very small indentation and lift out the cover.

TMack,
Thanks for posting the chart of screw & bolt types. According to your chart a # 2 or # 13 head with phillips head slot would do the best for Super Streets or E Z Streets.
I was trying to explain what type of screw head will work with Super Streets and you diagram is an excelleant thing to go by.

Me, too.
Are you guys tightening down to the point the street is drawn down concave, such with a bend downward?
You want an undercut screw head. That will countersink itself deeper.
Thanks a lot for the diagrams...I am taking them to the hardware store so there's no confusion.
Two hardware stores don't carry them nor can order. I'll try to find an on-line source, anybody recommend one?
Do you have a Sears Hardware nearby? They have #4 screws.
Home Depot does have sheet metal screws, #4 x 3/4 with flat head philips, 14 in a package SKU 402995. See here.
Bill, Don, thanks for the links.
Why not do a google search with the following:
sheet metal flat head screws with undercut
and look at the results you will get.

Another possible way to go -
I don't know how much material there is under the mounting holes.
Can you countersink the hole in the streets a little more?

I bought mine there and at Lowe. Really, they do have what you need there, #4 x 3/4. They worked for me: about 200 lane feet in total
I've tried an assortment of #4 screws, 3/4", 1", and 1/2" lengths, and unless I screw them down to the point the street deflects significantly downward, thus creating a noticeable depression, I cannot get the manhole cover to snap back in. Notwithstanding previous suggestions on #4 screws working, I ordered #2 x 3/4" flathead screws from bolt depot, and they should work.
Mark, potentially, that would work, I didn't try it.
