Atlas has several nice SW units but no smoke.

Edit/Add:  Atlas RS 1 with smoke.

I love 'em, too!!!

Wish I could get black smoke out of them.

Anyway, Lionel will have them offered this year ... ALCO S2's, in various roadnames, not exactly the look you're looking for though,  but a 1st generation switcher, if that fits ya ...

How about the K-line Plymouth switcher? No sound but does smoke.

If you go a little bigger to a RS1, MTH's Railking model is a knockout with great sounds and smoke (the most recent PS3 versions).

I have a Lionel Legacy S-2 Switcher when they came out in 2008 -- yep it smoked and the case got really hot-- not much room in there - I moved and it sat for 3 years - yep smoke unit died -- I would not run it anyway with smoke - scary warm on the plastic body.

I suggest an Atlas RS-1  - they smoke great.  

Are the new Lionel NW-2 in the Lion Chief line going to have smoke? I thought I saw that they would. And I think one road name is C&O.

MTH's last batch of RS-3's had smoke.

All of MTH's PS2 and PS3 (if any are out yet) ALCO S2's smoke and have the full complement of MTH's PS2/PS3 features and functions. Many of these features and functions, including protocouplers, work under conventional control, as well as under DCS. I own a couple of these and can testify that they work very well.

You can find one of them here, however, there are quite a few from which to choose.

Another MTH switcher which has smoke is the Premier Baldwin VO-1000.  They aren't great smokers (my older PS2 Alco S-2 smokes like a house on fire), but they do have a smoke unit.

Yep, I have a 2012 RailKing RS-3 that smokes.  Awesome diesel.

I have two MTH RS-1s (one PS2, one 3) and an Alco S-2. Real good smoke (especially the RS-1s), but they are much larger engines if that matters to you. With my SW1500, I got around the smoke issue by buying a dummy unit for it and drilling out the smokestack and put in a fan smoke unit for it. Added all kinds of LEDs and detail to it and most people think that it's the powered unit when they are linked together.

Not exactly.

While the RS1 is 14" long, the SW1500 and the ALCO S2 are only 1/4" different in length.

MTH's web site lists the SW1500 as 11 3/4" long and the ALCO S2 as 12" long.

Did the MTH Ingersoll-Rand switcher smoke?

That's what I meant when I wrote "they are much larger engines" (than the Alco). After I posted it, I figured someone might not get what I meant. Sorry. The Alco and the SWs will make it through back to back 027 switches, while the RS-1s won't get through 1 switch.

I have an RS1 that I traded for from a friend who had that same problem. The fuel tank on that engine was a problem for his switches. The engine I traded to him for the RS1 was actually a longer engine, however, it cleared his switch tracks.

Correct, the LC+ NW2's will smoke.  Spring 2015 release date?

Exactly......same problem. The fuel tank would bind and lift it right off the track. The kind of thing you only try once.
