It's Switcher Saturday Time!!!!

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.), so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

If you missed last week's "4 year anniversary SWSAT", you should go take a look, there was some great stuff posted!
https://ogrforum.com/...y-23-4yr-anniversary

Today at the RiCHY (Richmond, Chesapeake, Hudson Yard) we have NYC #X-8688 (Lionel dockside switcher) pulling
a freshly painted boxcar out of the rail car shed. The paint crew decided to go with a black paint instead of the New York Central green color they normally use, they are hoping none of "the brass" gets upset with their color choice.

Enjoy your weekend and when you get a chance - please post some switcher stuff here!

You know the rules:

1. if it's related to switchers (model switchers, prototypes, critters, switching yards, switching layouts) - we want to see it! Videos, Pics, Stories (true or fictional), poems, whatever!

2. if you miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

3. keep it friendly - we want this to be fun. (we haven't had any problems with grumpy trolls, I'd like to keep it that way)

All the best...Rich Murnane

@lee drennen - I love that little switcher, great C&O cars too!

@dorfj2 - great new switcher!  Is it the LC+ one?  now I want one!

@BAR GP7 #63 - as usual, I'm in awe looking at your Cape Shark pictures, the weathering on that sugar car is incredible!

@FRENCHTRAINS - I agree 100%, Weaver made some really nice steam engines, every time I see one at a show I'm tempted to grab it.  They carry their value forever too, there's a B&O Weaver switcher (brass) on eBay right now for around $500 and it will probably sell at that price.

For today’s SWSAT, I have two 4-6-0 “Ten-Wheeler” locomotives – a large one – and a small one about the size of a switcher. The large one, PRR G5s #5740, is an MTH PS1 model that I have been running for nearly 20 years. The small one is a Bachmann On30 narrow-gauge 4-6-0 which is the same 1:48 scale as the G5s. It is smaller because it ran on track with a gauge of 30 inches compared to 56-1/2 inches for standard gauge. The On30 model is 13-1/2 inches in length (54 feet full scale) compared to 20 inches (80 feet full scale) for the PRR model. The tractive effort was about 9,000 pounds for the narrow-gauge locomotive compared to 41,000 pounds for the standard-gauge G5s. I have been collecting On30 models for years, hoping someday to build a two-rail, narrow-gauge model railroad in 1:48 scale. Now, it’s that or add an extension to the O-gauge layout – but I haven’t decided which…

Yay! Starting the 5th year of SWSat!

Per Usual we are off to a great start this week. Always love a visit to Shark Bay with BAR GP7 #63. Melgar now that you have your 3 rail layout in print maybe some narrow gauge can be integrated into it.

Here are some pics of my Dapol A1A Terrier Fenchurch on the NYSME 2rail Oscale layout and some almost matching vintage 1930’s/40’s cast bronze  electric motors that are another members.

Have a great weekend. I can’t wait to see what you guys post.

Happy SWSat!

It's snowing on Long Island! Forgot what that looked like. Oh well...guess I'll just have to stay inside and play with trains today.

Great photos and info so far today everyone.

Locally the PRR is yielding the ROW to Western Maryland RR and the B&O/ Chessie. The motive power is being swapped out and they will be shifting rolling stock back to the PRR. All of the exchanges should be completed later today.

Have a great weekend!

Bob

Good morning--flooding here on the Russian River this past week. Heavy snow up in the Sierra too. One of the problems caused was a Union Pacific freight train on the old Western Pacific Feather River Route hitting a large rock that had fallen from cliff above. Conductor, engineer and maintenance-of-way man together were able to push it off the track. Then, a good size landslide that made for a 22-hour day. Do hope that everyone else has a better week ahead.

I would like to have this scene on my model railroad.

There's a spot very similar to this on the east side of Aurora. I was up in my bucket truck taking pictures of the scrap yard and a BNSF diesel creeped up behind me and blasted his horn and nearly scared me out of my bucket. When your level with the horn it's incredibly loud. I don't know why I didn't turn around and photograph it as I don't get to work that aria much.
