It's Switcher Saturday Time!!!! (1 day early)

Lots of us out there love switchers (shifters, docksiders, yard goats, critters, etc.),
so lets keep #SwitcherSaturday (a.k.a. SWSAT) rolling!

This post marks our 4yr anniversary of SWSAT, what a great four years it's been!

Here is the link to the first ever Switcher Saturday:
http://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/t...saturday-2015-feb-21

And if you missed last week's SWSAT, you should go take a look, there was some great stuff posted!
https://ogrforum.com/...day-2019-February-16

My pictures this week are of my NYC #1665 (Lionel 0-4-0), which was the switcher that I used for that first SWSAT (the first picture is from tonight, the second from 4yrs ago).

Anyway, this little switcher gets lots of exercise around my home layout, it's fairly simple but it's always fun.
I'm posting early because tomorrow morning I need to wake up early and head to the Greenberg Train show in Fredericksburg VA.  The club I belong to is setting up our modular layout, so I'll be pretty darn busy.

Enjoy your weekend and when you get a chance - please post some switcher stuff here!

You know the rules:

1. if it's related to switchers (model switchers, prototypes, critters, switching yards, switching layouts) - we want to see it! Videos, Pics, Stories (true or fictional), poems, whatever!

2. if you miss the post on Saturday? NO BIG DEAL, just keep posting pictures of your favorites until the next #SwitcherSaturday

3. keep it friendly - we want this to be fun. (we haven't had any problems with grumpy trolls, I'd like to keep it that way)

All the best...Rich Murnane

Congratulations Rich on the fourth anniversary of Switcher Saturday. I look forward to this thread every Saturday.

Here are my three 0-4-0 steam switchers to celebrate the fourth anniversary of Switcher Saturday. I would have included four four-wheeled steam switchers but I only have three. Long Island Railroad #3906 and New York Central Lines #901 are MTH Premier models. Lionel Lines #1615 was made by Lionel between 1955 and ‘57.

Yay!🎉🎊🎉

SWSat is on! Happy Birthday! 🎁

Thank you Rich for keeping us all rolling these four years. Your postitive outlook and encouraging posts have made this a weekly highlight for me. That community that has grown up around this weekly post is really strong and it has been fun to meet several of you in the “real life”. Coming up with something to post each week is a challenge that I have taken as a positive encouragement to keep my hobby growing in both reasearch and projects. To many more posts over many more years.

This week in honor of FOUR YEARS!!! I am posting pictures of my FORNEY!  (sneak preview of next years pictures of my 0-5-0 , my hand)

As you see it is in festive golden color with a little golden bobber. Crossing over and about to pick up a boxcar.

Happy fourth anniversary. Railroad tales---a Union Pacific freight train from Nevada to Sacramento had four lead locomotives. UP, Norfolk Southern, UP and CSX. Downhill the speed limit was 25 mph. The engineer used dynamic brakes and low setting for the air brakes. This wasn’t enough so applied more air brakes--a problem, but what? Speed now 27 mph and still increasing--can’t let train reach 30 mph or big trouble with the boss. Applied emergency brake--the fault was the CSX dynamic brake but non-UP locomotive couldn’t communicate that with the engineer. This happened during one of the recent Sierra-Nevada blizzards. All turned out well but it was a long day. I hope I didn’t mess this story up--told to me a couple of weeks ago.

Happy 4 yrs to Switcher Saturday!

Here’s one I saw online last week,

A Christmas present from my wife a few years ago...

One of the New Republic switchers at work, during overhaul.

A little something from vacation last week..

And of course, a 1934 H K Porter, converted to a 2-4-0 and tender.  That’s me leaning out the fireman’s side window, roughly a lifetime ago!

JHZ563 love Disney trains I go often and you may have taken the behind the scenes train tour if not I highly recommend it

It's steam switcher excursion day on the Plywood Empire Route!

              IMG_2824

As is usual with excursion trains the consist is a motley crew: an ex D&RGW coach still in Rio Grande livery, an ex-Santa Fe full-length dome in private livery and an ex-Milwaukee Road Skytop Lounge in the same private paint scheme.

Lew

Edit: And of course the star, a restored Pennsy B6!

Edit: I just noticed. Directly above the stack in the pic on the wall are my feet dangling over the edge of the Grand Canyon.

Andy,

The Forney model is beautiful. Who made it and when? What prototype RR? Does it run? I would like to see this from MTH or Lionel. But, I don't think so. Only in brass.

Melgar it is a Gem. It was made in the 1960’s  in 2 rail O scale. The prototype is an Illinois Central engine. It does run but it is an open framed growler. It is in the que for  repowering. After that I think mine may become a New York, New Haven and Hartford, Old Colony or New York, Providence and Boston engine...eventually.

imageimage

Maybe I’ll make a boat Train for it to pull. These were crew regatta observation trains that paced  the  boats as they moved down the river. The New Haven have run well over 140 of them but I don’t see them discussed often nor seen it modeled. These early cars look amazing. The last one was in 2004. Here is a you tube link to some footage.
