Hello again Switcher Saturday faithful! As usual this is our weekly gathering of those who can appreciate smaller locomotives that do big things. If you can respect that an A-5 is just as important as an Allegheny, that a GP7 was more versatile than a Century unit, or just generally get a kick out of little locomotives. You found the right place.
The guidelines of Switcher Saturday are simple.
- everyone plays nice
- all switchers are fair game. Any scale or gauge works, with an obvious heavy dose of 3 rail o gauge. Diminutive yard critters, docksiders, saddle tankers, porters, vulcans, to emd, alco and giant road switchers, its all good.
- everyone follows the ogr terms of service regarding pictures
- have fun !!

Its getting to be that time of year when the Sun low in the Winter sky peeps in the train-room window and highlights what goes on there. Yesterday afternoon the camera lens caught #1545 hard at work:
It is also that time of year when more time is spent in the train-room....in front of the little electric heater that takes the Winter chill off:
More time spent indoors means more time for....Switching! To that end the Fiddle Yard has been streamlined with the use of [paper] switch-lists instead of several separate trains being staged. Instead of 5 consists there are [currently] 10 switch-lists in play:
Depending on those switch-lists and the pick-ups of the day consists vary from three to eight (rarely) cars:
On the PER we only do what is fun and recent assessment found that passenger operations were too simple and....boring, so it has been dropped. The Northwest track switch and the stub siding where the Dinner Train was always spotted has been torn up. My helper's other favorite venue is the futon:
