Today was the day ...

I ordered a TA diesel train set with Rock Island PEORIA ROCKET decor, and it arrived today at Arkansas Traveler Hobbies in Bald Knob, AR.  Craig Christiansen, owner of ATH, offered an inaugural run of the train on his in-store layout -- with cameras clicking away and video too.  Other hobbyists on this forum have offered their superlatives about this model, and I enthusiastically "second the motion." Some pix attached.

The CRIP is not on my RR radar much, and EMD diesels are on it only occasionally, but I have always found the TA appealing. It has a bit of that Art Deco "streamlined steam era" flavor.

I fully expected for years that MTH would produce this loco; MTH will take a "rare" shot now and then. The paint scheme is striking, too. I don't usually like showy schemes, but this one is sharp (reminds me of a cross between GM&O and Warbonnet).

This loco breaks a lot of my rules. Very nice.

If it weren't for the fact that my 3rd Rail E6s are so nice that I now need to order to the Golden Gate Depot Super Chief set to go with it, I'd seriously consider picking up one of the few of these RI sets.  I saw them before they were all shipped at Scott's office and my jaw dropped.  Striking train rendered with wonderful precision.  A complete home run.
