Allan,  I have a metal post-war era Marx 4-light floodlight tower.  It's about a foot tall, on a 5" base.  With a little repair work on the wiring,  the lights work and it looks quite realistic.  The base is black, the tower gray, and the light fixtures chrome, but it can be easily repainted.  I try for close-to maximum realism on layout accessories, and this works for me.

The only possible source to find one would be at train shows with a lot of tables where post-war stuff is for sale.  I doubt if you'd find one in like-new condition, but still if it was what you wanted, a little fix-up is easy.  And, it should be very inexpensive.  Hope you can find one.

I have a set of the MTH lights.  There are two light towers to a package.  I ripped out the wiring and bulbs and installed 3mm LEDs and thin Evan Designs wire.  They also now have an on/off switch.  Seen in this photo before I finished hooking them up.

Thanks for the reply! Does we need a resistor? I like the style of the other because it looks like one used at the C&O railroad yard I grew up near.

The LEDs I used, for this project, are from Evan Designs.  They already have the needed components wired in.  I just had to extend the wire for my use.

Here is a link to the LEDs that I used...

I chose 3mm in Warm White.  You can also purchase rolls of their wire and heat shrink...if you need it.
