Here's one for the TCA York table. The right side building from the D.F. Stauffer Biscuit Co. project. Six stories with each floor individually lit 12V DC LED's. The front elevation shows five stories and a clearstory above. There are two windowo columns on the back. Also will have two at five stories tall with translucent glazing at the Orange Hall table. The building includes a set of stairs to access the front door.

For those who have been playing along at home, I produced an interpretation of the Springfield, MA Birthplace of Basketball building three years ago for the Amherst Railway Society Big E train show. The actual building was four stories tall and consisted of three attached sections. The design was eventually carried down the entire block, but sadly torn down in the 1960's. A McDonald's and kiosk-style historical marker are the reminders that we now have. I have produced fifteen shadowbox and ten 6" deep building versions of the design to date. I have been asked to produce the shadowbox in a 6-story version so three of them are in the works. As of right now two are available and can be ordered with glazing of your choice. They will be built out with my choice of glazing if otherwise not specifically ordered by this Sunday for the TCA York show.

The front elevation pieces for the 6-story version are shown below. Painting starts as soon as the first floor pieces and shadowbox side inserts are cut tomorrow. Some pictures of the original model are also show,

I will be set up in the Orange Hall at the TCA York show in a couple of weeks.  Check out aisle II for your quality building model needs for the layout. Todd Architectural Models is on one side of the curtain and Altoona Model Works is on the other.

As a reminder I sell a wide range of laster cut letter sets. Each package contains about 150 letters (A-Z) and numerals (0-9 and & in an array of common English language usage. The material is PolyBak (Laserboard) and there is high-performance 3M adhesive transfer tape on the back for peal & stick application. Paint. peal and stick them on your sign board or use them as a mask for flush surface results. Sizes run from 3/16" up to 1" tall. Individual 3/4" and 1" high letters and numbers in 1/16" or 1/8" thick acrylic plastic will be available at York.

If you can't make it to York, there is a 25% off sale on all letter sets on the website. Enter coupon code LETTERSETS25%OFF when checking out. Think of it as free shipping instead of visiting York!

It may be tough going into the TCA York Show but I am going to endeavor to add a couple of new O Scale window kits every month. The one presented today is a result of the Birthplace of Basketball special order that is being worked on right now. It reads on the website:
You are purchasing a 10-count lot of laser cut warehouse windows fabricated by Todd Architectural Models & Layouts. Each window measures 1" x 1-3/4" and comes in two pieces, the sash and the frame. These are the windows that are featured in our Springfield Birthplace of Basketball models. This prototypical Mission style double hung window has 11 total per sash. The windows are designed to be installed behind an opening and are sized 1/8” all around to allow for gluing surface and appropriate reveal of the sash and frame through the opening. When used in accordance with the intended design, the resultant window opening is 3/4” x 1-1/2”.
The stock number is SPFLD-1 O Window 1.
Each piece has adhesive transfer tape on the back for easy peal & stick assembly. Assembly is easy!
1. Peal the release paper off of the back of the frame and stick it on the sash.
2. Paint the windows.
3. Peal the release paper off of the back of the painted window and stick it on the glazing of your choice. This shop uses .006" clear and matte acetate.
4. Knife around the edges of the window.
You may purchase them in the Orange Hall Booth II-2 or from the website, www.toddarchitecturalmodels.com

This has been a tough week coming to grips with some of the new pricing of items that I need to fabricate and sell semi-custom built building models and shadowboxes. The cost of latex house paint quarts and spray cans is up about 75% since 2020. I went to price out cardboard boxes that the models will go into and had to pay almost 125% more than just two years ago. There are economies of scale built into the shadowbox and buildings that I produce so they are relatively affordable with me knowing that I will be making "more than one". I no longer concern myself with the CADD time it takes to "can you make it two stories taller?" However, please understand that there will be perceivable price increase in the future due to the higher cost of materials.

Here's the condensed steps for the Birthplace of Basketball project as a 6-story elevation. The actual building was 4-stories. This design will look good at any height, 4-stories and above. Three are being produced and one is spoken for. The second is glazed with Roscolux grey 97. The third can be glazed to your specification (clear, translucent or Roscolux 98). The second and third models will be available at TCA York.

Here's a couple of Birthplace of Basketball 6-story shadowboxes and a 5-Story WH-03 Paterson Silk Mill shadowbox in a configuration with freight doors on the first floor and double hung windows. Their next stop is Row II in the Orange Hall at TCA York. When at York, please make sure to stop by and chat with your OGR Forum sponsors. I look forward to seeing you at breakfast on Thursday, in the Orange Hall or at Quaker Steak. Over and out until October 23, 2023.

Thank you again to all that stopped by the booth at TCA York this week. I have re-upped for April 2024 and will be shuffling one booth right to have a corner location on the main aisle. Look for Brady's Trains to have an even larger assortment as John plans to expand into my former allocation. For those who could not make it or missed stopping by, we are running a 25% off laser cut letter sets through the end of October. Letter sets range from 3/16" to 1" in height. Each pack contains +/- 150 letters and numerals with adhesive transfer tape on the back for peal & stick application. Visit www.toddarchitecturalmodels.com for details.

This is our new Downtown Building #1. It has a footprint of 9" x 9" and stands 25-1/4" tall at 10-stories. The first and top floors are recessed back 1/2" all around. There are approximately 200 laser scored and cut pieces per elevation. The model has individual floors and ceilings and comes complete with ten individually lit floors. You may choose from four window glazings: clear, translucent, Roscolux 97 (light gray) and Roscolox 98 (dark gray). 97 allows partial (tinted) viewing to the interior when not internally lit. 98 does not allow viewing to the interior when not internally lit.

The model features scored block joint lines that wrap the window openings and corners, marbled half columns in between windows, and a removable back to allow for interior decorating access.

Downtown Building #1 is now in limited production for April 2024 TCA York delivery. Pictures of the pre-production model are shown below.  Five models are being produced and two are spoken for. If you are interested, please contact the shop directly by email or telephone.

From a request at TCA York I have started research on the Bethlehem Steel #2 Machine Shop. I am fortunate to have one of my long-time customers beginning the effort with his connections in Bethlehem. I plan to visit the Steel and the museum either this week or next. The original request is for a building model in a format to be determined and a shadowbox version is certainly a consideration. We are looking at a 6-9 month design and build out time. Email me directly to express interest.
