TCA York Show admitting anybody in April

Who is Doug Peck? The name is familiar, but I cannot place it.

The public will be allowed into the dealer halls.
The member halls will still be members only.

Do you go in the member halls?  If so you didn't waste anything. It's open to the public in the dealer halls only.

Doug Peck owns Port Lines Hobbies and sell S Gauge parts and trains.  Well known in the S Gauge community.

Bill, I think you did the right thing by joining TCA.  You will get in on Thursday for 5 hours in the member halls and 6 1/2 hours in the dealer halls.  Given the expected crowds on Friday and Saturday from the public, you may have some trouble getting through the aisles.  Get your best shopping done on Thursday, it may not be there or you may not be able to see it on Friday and Saturday.

I just read Doug Peck's newsletter.  The Eastern Division is going to admit non TCA members to the April York show on Friday and Saturday.  Only Thursday will be reserved for TCA members!  What a shock!

 

This is not quite correct.

Non-members will be permitted access to the dealer halls (Orange and Purple) on Friday and Saturday, but not the member halls (Blue, Silver, White, and Red). Those four are still reserved for TCA members only and are the ones that for the most part have the most interest for collectors and operators of 'vintage' trains (e.g., prewar, postwar Gilbert AF and Lionel, MPC and LTI production, etc.).

If this is being done to help increase sales for the dealers, why not open these halls at 9:00 am on Thursday instead of noon. Setup on Wednesday. Wasn't Thursday added to increase sales? I arrive early on Thursday and drive home Thursday evening (6 hr drive). I would like to have 3 more hrs. on Thursday. Waiting til noon is a killer.

It's going to be really crowded on Saturday.
