MTH tender--does not have pick-up rollers or a chuf switch
am I correct the four teather wires red & black are track power & white, & yellow are for the chuf switch

Chuff switch? There is no chuff switch in a PS/2 locomotive, it's triggered from the flywheel encoder.
What exactly do you have?
I picked up this tender (MTH) without the engine--there is a small sticker on the
topof the electronics--"99it 2-6-0 MTH" it has been repainted but I can read
penn on the side---I have PS1 but the electronics in this looks way different so I thought it might be 2 also it has the white 8.4 battery

How many leads in the tether? If it's four wires, it's PS/1, if it's 10 wires, it's PS/2.
The four leads for PS/1 are power, ground, and motor leads.
My memory must have slipped on what it looked like --it has 4 wires so it must be PS1
so now I have a spare
