Everyone on the forum seems much more up to date than me on technology. It is almost embarrassing to cry out for help, but I am at a loss and not even sure what I have to do to solve my problems. Some quick background info. I am trying to upgrade my TIU and my remote to the latest upgrades with the thought of eventually going wifi. I have also purchased a couple of new remotes also, so I would like to clone those.
Here is the problem. I have updated an older TIU and remote and had the loader program (an older edition) on a Windows PC. That computer got zapped last fall by a nearby lighting strike and will no longer turn on. No loader program. I do have an older Gateway laptop (Version 2002) with Windows XP installed on it. I have tried to load the installer program on it, but keep getting roadblocks in trying to do so. One is that it says I have to download a program called Microsoft .net Framework 3.5 . My Windows laptop does not seem to like this. I am assuming my laptop software is too old. Therefore I am not going to be able to go that route.
So, I am typing this up now on my MacBook Pro. I see that there is several ways of doing this on a Mac. If I knew what I was doing I could set up Windows through Bootcamp I guess. Or I could purchase a $70.00 program to allow the Mac to run windows. But if I understand correctly, I would still need to buy a Windows disk also to install and run....another outlay of money. Ouch!
Then I know I would have to purchase the WiFi unit plus buy the advanced app for the full capacity. And though I have an iPhone, I might also be interested in some tablet to install the software on. All of this seems like a large mountain to climb and a drain on the wallet to have fun with trains.
Can anyone set me straight? Is it really going to be this difficult? I live in a small town. I do not know of any other DCS users to ask to carry my stuff over to them for an upgrade. Aaaaaarrrrgh!!!!
