Yep. I'm an old fashioned "desktop computer guy". My 19 year old just informed me I can upload videos directly from my phone to the forum.....DUH

I'm off to a dance recital now will be adding video of the legacy 10 wheeler to my other thread this evening

It works, but I can't get it to go full screen. Had the same problem yesterday with some other videos posted to another thread. Not sure if it is on my end or the videos? They were working just fine in full screen a few days ago.

Doesn't go full screen for me either but looks good. Where/what is it embedded from?

We may not have full control due to origin.  

I'm not sure, but I think the phone apps may prevent ideal viewing for some photos.

"Something" does anyhow.

  The Hoopla attachment tool allows zooming, and opening photos in other windows.

 Otherwise some have to download, find, and open the file in another program to look at it larger. Then go back and delete if its not a "keeper".

I believe theK line has a puffer.

Its downloaded directly from my smartphone. I held the phone horizontally to avoid a narrow picture. I'm not sure if this resulted in an opposite effect.

Posting my own videos is "new" to me. I can grab other peoples videos from youtube and post them all day long. I may consider getting a youtube account of my own if that makes things easier.

Having said that, I'm no Eric Siegel, I'll likey only post a video here and there.

The video came out upside down, but no worries I just turned my phone upside down to watch it.

 After I posted it by phone I went and checked it downstairs via my home computer just to make sure and it came up right side up. It orients itself correctly in "standard view". Its upside down on my phone too Sorry about that Alex.

Hi Rick--goes fullsreen for me on my laptop. You'll do fine!

O.K., so now I'm on a roll with this. I decided to setup a youtube account last night, super easy.

I don't want Alex ( or anyone else) to have to watch my videos upside down if I record them with the phone upside down.

I upload a video, also easy. Allow it to "remove shakiness" this worked fantastic. Went to bed, checked finished video. Looks great.

  It doesn't show up on "general" youtube, try to post the video here, get error screen with static.

Go back to youtube, find "set to public" shows up on youtube but still get error screen here.

 Any tips? Is it still "processing" or something?

I've put dozens of "other peoples" videos up on the forum in seconds without a hiccup. I can't seem to get my own on here, go figure

No worries, as long as it's a video of a train, I don't care if i watch it upside down,  sideways, of right side up . I'm Happy !!!!!LOL !!!!

I've tried it "signed in" and signed out of my youtube account, the results is still the lousy error screen.

I suppose the next time I post my own video I could just ask another forum member to find and post it

Works fine. YouTube will tell you the URL your video can be viewed at when it "goes live", but this is before it's actually ready for viewing. There is a substantial amount of behind-the-scenes number-crunching before the video is actually ready to view. so it takes a bit more than a few minutes. 

Your repeated attempts to copy/paste likely did not produce results until YouTube actually finished processing the video. As an example, paste the URL of your video into www.Keepvid.com and click "Download":

All the different versions of your video listed above were created by YouTube from your initial download. Certain video formats are made up especially to be served to mobile devices (.3GP for example), so the one you see on your phone may not be the exact same file you uploaded, and might not be ready if you tried to view it immediately after uploading.

I don't know what happened to the post after that one, it also comes up as "An error has occurred" on my laptop as well.

Your first post from youtube works perfectly here, second one does not, youtube screen says error occurred, try again later before you even try to view it.

 Well, I don't know exactly why, it just started one day: When I post the embed address in the tool. I have to erase everything that comes before http. Including the parentheses symbol(") before the "h". I then check by preview. If you see the ogrf page in the preview its not right, there is an error, check the address.  

 I assumed the change was to accommodate phone apps. I figured a way out, and moved on.

The way I see things; it could all change again "next week"

I normally just right click on the video itself and copy that url and paste in the video box.

I clicked on the "embed" choice under my video, deleted everything before the http as you said and VIOLA!

You say something about phone apps. I uploaded my video from my smartphone. Is that why embebbing it your way works and the "traditional" way I was doing it doesn't?

Maybe had I uploaded the video from my desktop the "traditional" way of pasting the link would have worked?

I learned a few early programs but dropped hardcore following of tech many years ago. 

 My thought was I just hoped the auto detection in the embed tool would recognize the http alone and deal with it as needed. The rest in front I guessed as code for a phone app to see. I figured "something" had changed in my settings, but was always to tech lazy to chase it I had a solution, and didn't want the hassle of asking MS the right question, the right way.

I'm playing with my new go pro and the short video files of my train running comes out  over a 100 Meg. How do you make them smaller to be acceptable to the 100 mg forum limit? ??

I have tried to compress them with windows 8 and it won't do it.

One way is to get a youtube channel and post it there. Then post a link here on the forum to your video on youtube.

That's what I did. I actually had the youtube channel for quite a while, but had never used it until I tried to post something here.

Converting to a lower resolution will also make the videos smaller.

I'm "all thumbs" when it comes to computers ( as if you couldn't tell). The only way I'm able to upload a video with the forum software is to shoot a video thats less than a minute long. Say 40 or 50 seconds.

Thats why I set up a youtube account shortly after I started this thread. It was easy, as was uploading the video directly from my smartphone.

The only issue was the length of time it took to upload, nearly an hour. I'm not sure if this was an "internet issue" or something to due to the smartphone upload.

The  youtube embedding on OGR problem was some weird anomoly I've never experienced before. Adriatics method worked like a charm.

Youtube removed all of the "shakiness" that I caused by not using a tripod, I was impressed.

Have to do something . I can't send any videos to anybody, friends, family or the forum due to the large size.

You are welcome. I understand, I was reluctant to post to youtube as well and I don't like all the social media stuff either (other than watching videos posted by others). Don't do anything you are uncomfortable with, but youtube really is not all that bad and it is an easy answer to most of the problems you describe with videos.

I am far from a youtube expert, but I just left my youtube uploads as 'unshared' (or something like that) and I think that kind of makes them kind of unavailable unless you give someone a link? At least I have had a hard time finding my own videos on there by searching. Maybe someone younger and more tech (or youtube) savvy will come by and clarify that one as I am really not sure?

It depends on your software, and systems on exactly how to change its size.

First make a copy of the original file, then attempt to modify the copy

  In windows based programs, usually instead of just hitting the "Save" icon, right click or hit the drop down menu or whatever and choose "Save as" and options may show up to change file type.

Using "Publish" in MS programs (movie maker) (which does file type as well) and lowering resolution to hit under the limit is another choice.

Open a new file in an editor, insert/open copy file, publish at lower res. & check the size.  

You can now remove frames in an editing program for fine tuning time too

 Lowering the recording resolution on the camera itself would also lower the file size right off.

Studying the manual some more learning on the resolution issue. My first video was 1080 ultra wide 5 min long = .99 GB of space. way to large to e-mail.

Now I read where I can change the resolution and the FOV to several different settings.

I'm a little slow but making progress, I think.

I am like you, just getting started with videos.  I just setup a YouTube channel as well, although I don't have much on it.  All I was doing was testing on another Forum Topic as well.

Yes, I got some pointers from out two grown daughters, as well!  One benefit from this, I don't get many questions about computers etc from relatives any more, the daughters, the son-in-law, and the other daughter's boyfriend field all those much better than I can these days.

The layout looks like it is in an old heavyweight passenger car.  Is that so?  I like the shelving up above for boxes, etc.  Really nice layout!

Have you tried the embedding option?

Copy from Y.T.-"share", click the "film strip" on the Hoopla/ogrf bar at the top while posting, paste the address, erase everything before http, hit preview.

If you see the top of OGRF page, its not right.

If you see black, yellow, or the video, cross your fingers and use them to click "submit". 

The link worked fine here. Glad you got it all working. Youtube really does solve a lot of problems for sharing larger videos. Can't imagine the storage space they have available, must be a MASSIVE amount of it somewhere?

That was a very nice layout too. Looked like Fastrack that looked great with the ballast and was very quiet too. Since you said that was the lower level I'm guessing there is more to see? How about another video just like that one only with the entire layout shown?
