2014 Lionel Corporation Tinplate Catalog To Be Revealed Online Next Week

April 16, 2014 - M.T.H. Electric Trains will be posting its 2014 Lionel Corporation Tinplate catalog to the M.T.H. website beginning Wednesday, April 23, 2014.

The catalog's interactive flip page format allows viewers to search through the catalog using key words, zoom in on items, print individual pages and email favorite pages to your friends and family. Tools for doing these tasks are all located in the toolbar on the left side of each page in the catalog.

Items featured in the catalog can be ordered through any M.T.H. Authorized Retailer.

M.T.H. Authorized Retailers will begin receiving their in-store counter copies the week of May 4. M.T.H. tinplate mailing list subscribers will begin receiving their printed copies along with the 2014 Ives catalog the week of May 4, 2014.

I hope I'm wrong, but have a feeling the tinplate catalog is going to disappoint again. I don't think I've bought any LCT product since the 2012 catalog. And that wasn't much.

It's not a 400E, it's an O gauge engine, looks to be a 263E.

How's the quality on the MTH tinplate trains? I heard some bad reviews about the motors, wasn't sure if it was true or not.

That's what I thought...with the tan Missouri Pacific “Eagle” box car in front of the red Norfolk and Western hopper.

 

It doesn't matter if it's a 400e or a 263.....the point is it's nothing new and a very ugly looking steam engine.  Hopefully, this will not be the cover or even a glimpse into the inside of simple repaints.

Any catalog sightings yet?

Maybe MTH is reluctant to release on its website if it's just a bunch of reissues in different (or not) paint schemes. It's long past the time they produce an O gauge version of the "State Set" with longer and well proportioned O gauge passenger cars and a scaled-down version of a 400E for O gauge.

 

But I doubt we will ever see it.

No 2014 LCT Catalog yet today.  

 

Although when you click on the 2014 Lionel Corp Catalog link at the top of the MTH News Archives index (on the MTH website), you'll be presented with an "Access denied" error message page.  So maybe they're just keeping us tinplate enthusiasts in suspense for a little while longer.

I've seen some marginal new releases in my time. The folks in the MTH Marketing Department missed the boat this time. That's one UGLY choo-choo!

I hate to say it guy's but different colors are all we are probably going to see. I think any new tooling is reserved for the European line.

Aside from a brief -- very brief -- sneak peek Wednesday afternoon, it looks like MTH was keeping the LCT Catalog for West Coast toy train enthusiasts and East Coast night owls this evening.  As of 1AM EDT, I noticed the new LCT catalog is now online (again) and featured on the MTH website homepage.

OK;It looks like I'm having crow for lunch!  A standard gauge subway? Never saw that coming! I don't plan on getting one but it is interesting.  I do plan on the Monorail which I have been long waiting for! Definitely a couple of surprises for me in the new catalog.

I really like the subway, very cool. But I think I'm going to jump on the monorail this time around. Anyone know who's taking pre-orders?

 

 

Well, I’m not sure of what to think about the new Lionel Tinplate catalogue.  Lots of repaints, but the subway cars do show a positive sign.

 

I for one had given up on the hope of ever seeing anything new, so Kudos to whomever it is at MTH that is thinking outside of the box.  I hope the subway train does well enough that the tinplate line will see more new product, not just reproduction repaints.  I'm looking forward to seeing it in person.  Who says that tinplate only has to be what was produced by the original companies.  Why not diesels?  Why not a GG1?

 

If the subway cars do well, I’d like to see some elevated trestle work, maybe a tinplate elevated station.  There’s lots of opportunity for new product here, if we support it.

I am ordering the monorail. I waited a long time for this. Not sure about what else. The subway looks interesting.

As of this morning, the price lists hasn't been posted online yet.  I already have pre-orders for the monorail set and a few for the subway and crackle paint freight cars and 400E too.

 

It blows my mind how pessimism grabs so many, when optimism should be the rule of thumb regarding new catalog offerings.

The catalog has prices in it. Will these change?

I hope so.  $1200 is a lot for the subway train.  Even at the preorder price, I think it's expensive.  Maybe 3 cars instead of 4 would be a better option, with an option to buy the 4th car as a single.  That would lower the price point below the $1K level. 

Disappointing from my view... 

I am disappointed in the 2014Tinplate Catalog offerings.   However, kudos to MTH for the subway train and bringing back the monorail.

Hmmmm...the LCT Club Cars look to be repeats of previous offerings- Hopper for standard gauge and box car for O. I am waiting/hoping for an O gauge caboose to go with the previous issues from the series. Why the repeats? probably leftover inventory....

I am impressed that MTH is bringing something totally new to the Standard Gauge tinplate market with the subway.  And a postwar subway model at that!  I might pick it up just for the sheer uniqueness of it.

Question: does anyone have any insight as to why the subway is listed under the heading "On the Drawing Board"?  

I was thinking the same thing. I think like many other catalogs in the past they are probably going to see if there is enough interest. Which may very well determine if it ever makes it off the drawing board and into production!

The ONLY thing that interests me is the R-17 Subway set - but how in the world are they going to fit a Bild-a-Loco motor in that carbody?  

 

Just HOW large are those cars?  

 

Would they be, for example, the size of a #9E loco?  

Catalog says the subway cars are 16x4x5.
