I just completed a cross country drive from San Francisco to Washington DC. Here are the train pictures I took...
San Francisco Cable Car Museum and Municipal Railway. Did not see/ride the PCC cars but did ride the cable cars.
California State Railroad Museum, Sacramento.
Lovelock, Nevada train station after a pit stop for gas!
Green River, Wyoming is a major hub on the Union Pacific. The rail yard splits the town in two and there is a great pedestrian bridge going right over the rail yard.
Union Pacific steam shop in Cheyenne and the Big Boy in Holiday Park. It was a quick trip to Holiday Park as the "local guests" to the park were obviously up to no good around the engine. We also did see the UP E Unit ABA set outside the shop but didn't get a picture.
Cody Park in North Platte, Nebraska. Great place. Awesome displays. Didn't know about these. We stopped in NP for gas and food and saw a "train museum" on the map. Didn't expect much but it was awesome to climb aboard a Challenger and DD40. Also had a reefer car, RPO, Baggage, Caboose, station, and lots of signals and signs.
Kenefick Park in Omaha, right on the Iowa/Nebraska border and Missouri River. Beautiful park and displays.
Jesse James Historic Site, Adair, Iowa.
UP Freight, somewhere in Nebraska or Iowa.
After Iowa, I didn't take any more train pictures as there wasn't much else to see. If you ever get a chance to drive cross country and see this beautiful country, do it. I really enjoyed it but am in no rush to do it again!!!
