Ladies & Gentlemen,

Due to the recent thefts in our hobby, I am passing this information along for your home to help protect our train collections and your full home.

The newest security monitoring device available today for our Hobbies ultimate security is to purchase the Innovations AXE 5 Wild Life Camera, and then use the Transcends WIFI SD Card that sends on time pictures to your computer any where in the world.  This set up can be used inside or out, day and night.  The new WIFI SD Card is chipped to send pictures to your PC or home computer or IPhone, the cost of the Carmera is only $49.00 on sale at Dicks right now.  The Cost of the Transcends WIFI SD Card is $49.00 on the Net.  If you already have WIFI on your computer set up, each camera set up now cost about $100.00 to run Security pictures 365 days a year, which is far cheeper than the $499.00 per Camera on my Samsung Security package.  I am adding these new AXE 5 Cameras with Transcend WIFI SD to our Pine Creek Grouse Dog Properties and my Churchill home, where my O Gauge Trains are kept.

If you want to protect your Train Collection here is a reasonably priced way to accomplish it, it may also drop your insurance payments considerably also.

Guns,

The WIFI is not from the AXE 5 Wild Life Camera it comes directly from the Transcend WIFI chipped SD Card, to your WIFI home unit or I Phone, the AXE 5 only supplies the picture to the SD Card.   The SD Card is actually WIFI Chipped, different new technology, I am awaiting my 1st SD Chipped Transcend Card right now.  This is going to change picture/video security big time, especially the cost.

I looked, and there is actually a much better option according to this test.

In terms of features, the Transcend has only one real advantage over the Eye-Fi, but it's a biggie: it offers double the capacity (32GB vs. 16GB) for less cash. The Eye-Fi is a more serious product, as befitting its higher price, and boasts a much longer connectivity range than the Transcend, the ability to connect to laptops and desktops in addition to mobile devices, works with more video files, and it ships with its own card reader equipped with a desktop program. The Eye-Fi also has Eye-Fi View cloud storage.

Are these solutions considered better/cheaper than a commercially available camera like Nest (nee Dropcam)?  We have a few of these at our homes and have been very satisfied.  They have a monitoring fee which is variable depending on what services you want.  We went top of the line with the $12/mo/camera option but when protecting our home and belongings we felt it was worth it.  Features include the ability to define areas within the field of view of the camera and alert (email/text) when motion is detected in each area.  Just a thought.

Ron,

Yes no matter which SD WIFI card you pick, using the cameras identified, it is much more cost effective to set up and monitor your own security package, on your computer.  Guns is probably correct about the other SD WIFI card, as he indicated it is a lot more expensive, but even so it's still cheaper than putting in a system like I already have and purchasing additional cameras.  I was trying to keep the set up very reasonable in cost, when I looked into expand my own Security Systems, with this technology.

Guns the Transcends WIFI SD Card I talked about has 32GB also, you looked at the 16GB cheaper card.  Which is ok if you want dump the card all the time.  I ordered the 32GB Card myself.

Matt,

The $300.00 systems from Costco or Sams Club are very limited, I do recommend the more expensive ones however, with the addition of these #5 Cameras with WIFI SD cards to expand the better systems even further, it will work out quite well.

Jim,

There was no exacting address given and much more to my security system than I talked about here on the OGR.  Not to worry.  I am in no way worried about our homes security package.  I was relating information to help other OGR members with a reasonable priced security package, for their home or Camp.

Guns,

Absolutely correct, and very limiting also, many of the Pro Security systems although remote in picture/video sending operation, still must have a line for actually powering the camera, so make sure if you purchase one of these systems that the Security System is completely wireless in operation.  These Pro Security packages are very costly, but do work well, some have a manditory monitoring contract that you pay for every month also.  Using the AXE #5 Camera and the WIFI SD Card you set up the system and monitor it yourself on your own computer/IPhone, no matter where you are located.

Super Dave,

I agree Insteon is a good Company with good Security products.

I have 4 Nest Dropcams on my layout set up for live web streaming. They serve 2 purposes. First, they provide a live web feed for people to view the layout whenever they want. Secondly, when I'm not at home they are set up to trigger on motion, at which time they start recording video and an alert is sent to my phone.

I've also got AT&T digital life security for my house, which sends me text alerts and photos anything anyone enters the house or the area outside the house.

Additionally, everything is hooked up to a backup power supply so that it can still function during a power outage, if necessary.

There was a gentleman named Greg who already has done this.  A really cool setup to view and run his trains from afar.  I believe you used to be able to turn on the lights and everything.  It was pretty cool and Greg has a pretty cool page on vintage TV Predicta's and other cool stuff.

Here is a link to his site.
