We're down in Florida visiting my mom, Rose Scher, who will soon be 97 and now frail and in a nursing home.

My mom gave me my first train set, a Lionel 2525 steamer outfit in 1952. I still have that set in

the original condition. How I loved it.

Sixty two years later, thanks to O Gauge Railroading and all our friends, mom can now read about

the legacy she created with that first set. Allan Miller and the gang, thank you !

It took me more than one hour to read all the e-mails and "Like" notices sent from all of our friends on the OGR Forum when I opened the computer tonight. Words cannot express how grateful we are to all of you. Over the last several years, whenever we would visit her, mom would ask, "Isn't it finished yet?" We would laugh and tell her she started it all so it is never going to end.

Mom has no idea that tomorrow I will read to her all of the posts here and the goodwill sent by all of you great folks. We thank you so much and are gratified to know there is such a wonderful community of people who care.

That is such a wonderful photo...truly.  The great write up and photos of your beautiful layout in the latest OGR issue were a real treat, you have created a real gem that contains scenes that spark the imagination and stir the creative spirit.

To your wonderful mother I say Happy Birthday Rose!  See what you did...you created a passion that has burned for a lifetime and we now get to see and share in that passion with each and every story and wonderful photo.

Eliot....please give your mom our best wishes!!  As I look at her picture, I can see her eyes in your eyes...most certainly you two are mother and son....  Like you, my mother was the one that made sure the trains were under the tree each Christmas and dad built my first layout.  And like you, my mom at age 90 is now living near us in a nursing facility and to this day gets joy out of remembering those trains!!  We do love our moms don't we..

Alan

Jay, Alex, Bob, Art, John, Chris, and all our friends,

All of you make this the greatest hobby In the world.

We hope to see you all at our Open House November 15.

Of course, mom's posters in Roseville will be on display.

Mom says, "Welcome to Roseville. Behave yourself, I'll be watching."

My mom is incredibly courageous.

When I grew up we lived across the street from Yankee Stadium and our Little League field was also across the street from Yankee Stadium. One day we showed up for a game and the gates were chained. The Yankees had bought the field to turn into a parking lot. My mother was very angry and led a picketing group outside the Yankee management office and this was picked up by CBS News and their big anchor Gabe Pressman. In 24 hours the NYC Mayor's office called my mother to come down and "meet" with them about it. They did not understand who was coming. My mother met with Mayor Lindsay and the Parks Commissioner (forgot his name). They offered her another field half mile away and my mother turned it down. She said to the Mayor, "You have long legs, you can get there in time. These are kids. We want Macombs Dam Park right across the street (the current site of Yankee Stadium)."

The next day, the Mayor's Office announced that our Little League would be playing its games at Macombs Dam Park.

You don't mess with Rose !
