Amazing the inspiration, one forum, one forum member, and one picture can cause.

Forum member "norton" posted this picture in a thread a while back and I came across it during my research of Lionel CC S-2 Turbines.

I loved the picture so much, that I changed my layout from east and west coast roads, to a focus on the PRR and NYC in the east.

Also, I had been avoiding 0-27 passenger cars, and when I saw the 0-27s in the picture with the S-2 Turbine, well....that was my next purchase, along with the Century Club S-2 Turbine.

In fact, it resulted in selling all my 18" or larger passenger cars and sticking with 15" or smaller.

As my layout is not big enough for the larger cars and locos to look good.

Here is the picture Norton posted, thank again Norton!

Chipset, that is very cool!  I also had a similar experience.  I was just getting back into the hobby when I discovered this forum years ago.  Thru this forum I met Scale Rail.  He inspired me with the below photo of his layout.  We became friends and the adventure continued when he asked me to go with him while he did a film on the Southern Pacific 2472 locomotive.  Then...I got to see his layout in person!  Amazing!  He has given me so many tips that are helping with my current layout construction.  He also taught me how to photograph real and model trains.  He lives in Maui now and he still is my friend and model railroad mentor.  Matt

chipset, that truly is a great shot of those beautiful Lionel post-war 027 Passenger cars.  Whoever says that 027 doesn't look realistic should take a gander at Norton's photo.  When I read posts like this on the forum I am literally awestruck at the unbelievable modeling skills which are displayed here.  I only wish that I possessed them.

Whoa, I just noticed this. Thanks Chip and everyone for the kind comments. I wish there were a layout but these are just a couple of my club modules.

While I have been spending more time on scale trains I have no intention of parting with my traditional stuff. In fact if I hadn't joined a Hi Rail club I could be content with conventional running Post War style trains. I get the same pleasure running a Beep as my Vision Hudson. Pulling a handle or turning a dial and seeing a train run down the track does it for me.

Some pics taken at York a few years ago.

Pete, do you have more pictures of that module or your layout?

Not only does Pete do beautiful work, but he's also gives a lot of technical advice.  He's truly an assent to the OGR forum!

There is nothing like 3 rail. It is SO perfect!!!!!!

Yep same here I bought some of those Santa Fe shorties with the blue stripe because it came with an operating Mail boxcar, never dreaming my son would love 'em -me too and we bought more so my Dad's semi-Hudson could pull them and we get the most compliments and wow's when those are running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is something about that S-2 and 2400 Series car combo, which I know was sold as a vintage set back in the 1950's.

I just love the look!

I did not have to change my layout physically, but I did change the trains that made up the layout, removing western and/or scale trains and replacing them with Eastern and non scale passenger cars.

Basically, 0-27 and 15" cars.

Same with the engines; 0-27 or semi scale or smaller, no scale.

There is also the reddish brown Lionel Lines Madison passenger cars with the Berkshire, another Lionel set both vintage and modern, i want to emulate.

I faced the same issues and decided right at the beginning to focus on 15 inch passenger cars, mostly aluminum, rather than 18 or 21 inch  cars.  But I also run smaller scale locomotives (F3s, RS27s, BL2s, ROW articulateds) with hi rail scale 40 foot box cars. My layout is 20 X 10 with 54 inch and 42 inch curves and I am quite pleased with the results.
