I finally got a chance to become intimate with the new Lionel catalog.
I am impressed with Lionel’s high-end diesel models. Apparently there are some Railfans in Lionel’s product development team. One example is their GP-30 with high short hoods and AAR trucks where appropriate for the road. Norfolk & Western and Southern Ry. Ran those units long hood forward. I wonder if the Lionel units are set up that way?
The earlier NYC GP 30s were prototypecly correct without dynamic brake fans or vents in the roof top blister.
Their Canadian National FA-2 from a few years ago was correctly modeled after the FPA-4 with additional louvers below the radiator shutters.
What is fine for the toy train market is unacceptable for the advanced 3-railer. They are no longer happy with just attaching a dynamic brake blister to a  GP-7 and calling it a GP-9 or chopping the short hood and calling it a GP-20.
Before someone gets their shorts in a knot, I am not disparaging the post war modelers, I am only commenting on one segment of the vast 3-rail hobby.
