The owner's manual said, turn off the chuffing switch (CHUFF OFF). Remove power from the track at least 2 seconds. When you turn power back on, no background chuffing sounds ... except this one still does. Had it off for >4 hours with the transformer unplugged, still it chuffs. Could it be anything with the fact that I'm running it on AC from my ZW?

Squirted and wiggled, still it chuffs.

Looking at things from the bottom side, the switch is wired opposite to what I would normally think - in the OFF position, the switch contacts connect two wires, one in the center, one on the end. In the ON position, only the center contact is wired - the other end contact has no wire. Could you check yours to see if it's wired the same as mine?

If so, that means switch CLOSURE is necessary to turn the background sound off, which in turn means the other end of one or both of those wires may be disconnected. Guess I'll have to open it up and take a look-see.
