Hello fellow tinplaters –
I normally do Standard Gauge (SG) tinplate things and usually have SG tinplate running around the Christmas tree along with some tinplate buildings and such. I try to keep everything really traditional since that’s what I like best. Anyway, I was poking around the archives within the forum under the search term “Christmas tinplate” and I had come across a thread entitled “I'm thinking about adding a new tinplate set this year. How about posting some videos!!!”
I read the thread and found everything very interesting and loved the photos/videos and then something caught my eye. About 4/5 of the way down a member by the name of WMTRAINNUT09 posted a comment on November 18, 2013 showing a 260E along with four 700 series cars. These are the photos that he posted and I give credit to him for taking them.
In all the years that I've done tinplate I've always had SG with the exception of one O Gauge tinplate set I purchased earlier this year – the Lionel Archives Hiawatha Passenger Train Set cataloged in the LCT Tinplate 2010 catalog and I’m loving it. When looking at WMTRAINNUT09's photos I started to fall in love with the set that he had under his Christmas tree and I was thinking about purchasing a set for myself, knowing that it would get tons of use under this year’s Christmas tree and even more use when running it on a carpet layout in a spare bedroom that I have.
So, here are some questions that I have:
(1) For those who have this set, what do you think of it? Was it everything you hoped it would be and more?
(2) More generally, what are the differences between a 263E, 249E, 260E, etc.? Forgive my ignorance of these locos but these seem really similar and I haven't really looked at these up close before. Is it the size, power, accents/trim?
Any help and advice that anyone could offer would be appreciated. Have a great day everyone and go run some trains.
