i have all kinds of problems. First i replaced a diode as my TIU died on me. After repair it would fire up engines but wouldn't add them or run them. Did the upgrade to version 6 but nothing worked. So I saw a TIU new for sale on eBay for 70.00 but it was the older version. Couldn't get the computer to recognize it to do the software upgrade. Plugged it in to my z-4000 and noticed the amps were way down. Seconds later heard a pop or fizzle sound and it's dead. So two TIU units dead - had one last year fry its terminals and scrapped. What is going on? Is my z-4000 bad? I don't see any fuses in the older version TIU so I guess there is no repairs to be done At this point I'd rather ship everything off to a repair shop to see what they can figure out the problem is my way is too expensive and frustrating anyone up for the challenge?

Not to be offensive, however, I think that it's worth noting the following.
First,
i have all kinds of problems.
Your problems are primarily self-inflicted:
- You mis-repaired your first TIU.
- You bought a replacement TIU on E-Bay.
- The TIU you purchased on E-Bay was a 14 year old model that has a history of being prone to failure, and apparently had issues.
Second,
At this point I'd rather ship everything off to a repair shop to see what they can figure out the problem is my way is too expensive and frustrating
I couldn't agree more. There are several people on this forum who can help you. Hopefully, they will respond soon. Good luck!
Nope I get it. I didn't want to spend 160 plus not knowing what the issue was. Anyhow I had the TIU plugged into another brick I own trying to do the software update. It was only when I plugged into the z brick that it fried. Just want input if it could be the transformer?

Unless you plugged the transformer into the TIU in some weird way, no, the transformer isn't the problem.
Forum member GGG might be able to help you. He is highly recommended by several other forum members here. I would contact him and he can tell you if he can help you or not.
I wouldn't put any money into the Rev G (no fuses) TIU. The others, both last years and the current one, I'd send to GGG (and no one else) for him to estimate repairability & price. I would highly recommend that you put NTE 10 amp breakers on each TIU channel feed.
Where can you get these NTE 10 amp breakers?
I use push button reset breakers from www.defender.com
