One reason is likely the many stories about the track signal post coming loose.  If you are using the screw-on binding post, that's possibly loosening the post.  The banana plug doesn't risk that.

I had a banana plug on my post and it was giving me a fit.  Lost it and my signal has been solid.  Haven't investigated enough to see what the culprit was.
