Hey guys.  I'm having a strange issue when trying to hookup a Rev L TIU to my O gauge layout which is powered by a ZW-L transformer.

When I hookup the TIU through Fixed 1 Input, there is this soft buzzing sound coming out of the TIU.  Even if I have no connection to the track.

However, if I take the same TIU and hook it up to my Z-4000 transformer, no buzzing.  Doubt it's a TIU issue as it works perfectly with my Z-4000 on my other standard gauge layout upstairs.

Baffled on what it could be except it does not like the ZW-L.  I have had the ZW-L on my Legacy layout for 8 years and everything has run perfectly all that time.

I also notice the 3 PS 3.0 engines also have this slight buzz when they are sitting on the track.  Legacy engines are silent.

I have 2 TIU's both brand new and both act the same.

Any ideas what I am missing?  Or ideas on what it could be?

Thanks!

Need to look at the output of the ZW with a scope.  Does it do it on all 4 channels of the ZW?  G

I would have to check other handles on the ZW-L.  I will see if that make any difference.

I don't have a scope so can't really do that and wouldn't know what I am looking at if I did, lol.

I do have the ZW-L set to 4 independent channels, not a single one, as I use the other handles for to power other things, like for the LCS modules and other things.

Thanks

What the heck is a ZW-1? One may infer you were trying to reference the ZW-L?

Any ways, while the ZW-L is an "electronic" transformer, its output at full throttle is essentially a pure sine wave. So the real recommendation would be to check that the throttle is indeed set to full throttle, not swap transformers.

Here is what triac driven chopped sine waves of a typical "electronic" transformer look like:

I have no electronic expertise at all.......but I can tell you that I have never had any buzzing with my TIU ZW-L set up. I routinely set the dials to 17-18 volts.

Each ZW-L circuit went through a separate input on the TIU: outer loop, inner loop, yard and subway loop

Thats what I would have thought.  I set it to 18 volts for my Legacy Engines. So wouldn't want it at full throttle.

I will have to do some more testing, but like I said, using it with the Z-4000 the TIU is silent.

I can't believe buzzing would be a good thing, haha.

Thanks
