I've had TMCC in operation on my layout for  well over ten years and probably about 7 or 8 years ago I added DCS.  When I got my first Legacy engine I also installed the latest Legacy stuff.  All of it has been completely compatible; the original TMCC command base is connected tor the layout through the Legacy base, as directed by the instructions furnished.  I've used each type of control for the engines that it  was designed for.

But lately, the last few months, my TMCC hand helds (I have two of them) seem to have lost some contact with the base.  In order for the command to be followed by the engine, you have to have the hand held right next to the Command Base.  I took the hand helds and the command base over to the Lionel Open House last weekend to see if they could repair whatever was the problem, but was told that Lionel no longer has any parts for the original TMCC.

So; Am I just out of luck?  I really like to use the old TMCC hand held and I don't want to toss out all that equipment.  Do any of you know if any repair parts are available and, for that matter, do you know anyone who can repair my system?  I suspect that the problem is in the Command Base because both hand helds have the same problem.  Have any of you experienced similar problems that you've been able to get fixed?  I wish that I knew more about electronics but I'm just a bit too old to start learnng now.

The reason that I do have duplicate controllers is because I often have guest over to operate trains.  I guess that I could pick up another Legacy controller but I still hate to toss out all the old stuff if it can be made to work, once again.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Another possibility to account for poor reception is that the TMCC command base has become "detuned" through aging parts and entropy, and is no longer receiving on exactly the same frequency as the handhelds.  This tuning can be adjusted by tweaking, I believe,  a potentiometer inside the command base.  I have not performed this minor procedure (requires a screwdriver and patience) myself and do not have access to the instructions for doing this. I know there are others on the forum who probably do know how to assess this possibility and fix it if it's so. You may be able to find the procedure for adjusting the tuning on the command base by using an internet search engine.

Hmm...  Buy two CAB-1L units for $300 instead of a $50 TMCC base on eBay or in the forum for-sale?  Why would you want to do that if the CAB1 is working perfectly well for you?

That was only meant in the event that his CAB-1's were toast and to avoid having search for use used CAB-1s with unknown histories on eBay or here. Sometimes just buying new is worth it.

Next time I will try to make myself clearer for you so you don't miss the point

And like RickO said contact Dale, he knows more about the old TMCC items that probably anyone on this forum

Guys:  I thank you for all your thoughts and suggestions.  I believe that I will go ahead and take my Command Base apart and see if I can find an antenna wire disconnected.  Beyond that and looking for other obvious problems, is probably beyond my capabilities.

Anyone know how I can get a hold of Dale Manquen, if this doesn't work?  Anyone know his e-mail number?
