I have difficulty with TMCC and Legacy signals. Does being near a DCS TIU disrupt the signals?

It should have no effect, and it hasn't for me or any other DCS/TMCC combined layouts that I've had experience with.
I suspect your issues with TMCC/Legacy have nothing to do with the DCS.

is your legacy unit plugged into a known earth ground?
Robert,
Bigdodge is giving you the correct skinny, if you have your Legacy 990 base plugged into a Multi Bar, unplug it and plug it directly into a well grounded house outlet.
Most Multi Plug Bars are not grounded well enough to make the legacy unit function properly. It's one of the things I think Lionel needs to stress in their Legacy instructions and educational Videos.

I think the issue with power strips is the transient protection, the MOV that is typically used steps on the 455khz signal.
Guns,
Thanks again for the education, I appreciate it. Is there any way to get around it, to be able to use the Multi plug Bar with the Legacy base.

Open the strip and rip out the MOVs.
I've been lucky I guess, 4 different power bars/plugs over the years and never a problem. The latest one I am using has surge protection and works great
Guns,
Just what is a MOV, where do I look to disconnect it, will I need to solder to buy pass it, or just clip some wires? A little more electrical technical engineering help please. I would really like to use my good Multi plug Bar close to my transformers
for my Legacy base. It runs everything else perfectly.
cbojanowner,
The Harbor Fright multi bar like yours is not a problem, I use them under my platform, it's just to long to put on my roll away power supply set up with the transformers.

I want to plug into the Multi plug, 8 outlet Bar you see just above the Z4k, somehow it messes up the Legacy signal, I thought it was the grounding in it that messed up the signal. Right now I run my Legacy clear back to the main house wall plug with a Etekcity remote control switch, to make it work properly.
MOV=Metal Oxide Varistor. In the strips I have opened they are about size of a quarter, many times red. .

Pete,
OK, how do I need to remove it, without damaging the rest of the plug bar.

The ones I have seen are soldered in. They look like a large ceramic capacitor with two thin wire leads. Just snip them off with a pair of wire cutters. If you are unsure take a pic after you open up the case. Not a lot going on inside there.
Pete
Norton,
Thanks much for the input, I appreciate it. When I take down the Christmas layout this will be something I need to look at, I want to make this happen for future layouts.
